It goes without saying that you will be no longer throwing your oil out, once you get started into Biodiesel.

One thing with the plastic drums some have a different thread on the bungs so a normal drum pump will not screw in. That's not a big problem and either type of drum would be suitable.

As for storage time, provided you have dried the bio properly it will store for at least 6 months. I had a full 200 litre metal drum that had been sitting for just on six months before I used it. It was still as good as the day it was put in the drum.
