A major issue with this in small scale production, is sourcing Absolute Ethanol, getting a licence to buy it and dealing with the Excise people.
You could brew and distill Ethanol at home, using a "reflux still" to get 90+% Ethanol. (I do this often)

A 90° male 19mm BSP x 19m Barbed fitting is screwed into the top of the bulkhead fitting in the second bung of the first blue chemical drum using thread seal tape..
A piece of 19mm poly retic pipe is attached, for connection to the next drum.
ALL drum bungs need to be tightened...

The settling system uses 2, blue poly 200L chemical drums and plumbing / reticulation fittings to move oil from the strainer, to the bottom of the first drum.
The settled oil from that drum is sent to the bottom of the second blue 200L poly drum.

While I have not made biodiesel for 15 years, preferring to use SVO .
From what I have read, Common Rail diesels should be happy running on well made biodiesel.
