  • The Fitch Catalyst - Genuine Improvement or Fake Hype?

There has been much buzz among our users about this device. There have been many fuel pre-catalyst devices like it in the past, which have all proven to be fakes, but this one seems to be getting new attention.

Personally I have been sceptical, due to past claims which have later not stood up to the scrutiny of real tests.

One of our users has sent me this link, which seems to put it all to rest quite well (says it’s mostly all bunk). I’ll not discuss the points that either of these 2 links makes here, I’ll leave that up to the rest of you , who may have more knowledge in this field than I do.

Assuming for a moment that this device DID work, the next question that has been posed is: Would it work for biodiesel as well? General opinion seems to agree that it would, but has anyone actually tried and tested this out?

It might be a good thing for our group to properly test. If anyone has one of these devices and can give some real world before and after tests, it would be good to publish them here.

I will also be inviting the distributors of the Fitch Catalyst to comment here.

I invited the local distributor of Fitch to explain his product here, but he has ignored the request.
I'll let you judge this lack of response for yourselves.

      Performafuel Catalyst

      Here is another fuel catalyst:

      Performafuel

This is designed and manufactured in Sydney. It claims much the same as the Fitch, so I will also invite the distributor to comment on the argument that it is all a bit dodgy.

Their website has some graphs from a Dyno, but I'd appreciate some comments on the science presented by the counter argument.

Additionally, I'd like to hear whether this product would work with biodiesel.

Again, no reply from the distributor. I'd welcome any other info from anyone, but otherwise I think you can all work this one out for yourselves.

Re: The Fitch Catalyst - Genuine Improvement or Fake Hype?

          Hi crew,
I was surfing around on the net and discovered to my surprise that the Uni (UNSW - where I work) actually has a fuel and engine testing facility. Crikeys! Talk about handy. When you have 40,000 students and 6,000 staff it is not surprising that there are tonnes of amazing things hidden away ...

I would be keen to sort some testing of our own of biodiesel and engines etc later on. We may have to organise the testing to occur on Uni vehicles rather than our own but it would still be an interesting exercise. I won't be keen to muck around with any of this though until we have a fuel supply for the members of the Sydney Biodiesel Users Group sorted out. That is my No.1 biodiesel priority right now.

I bet we will generate some hits onto this site if we have some independent testing that we can show results from for the fitch plus various other gizmos like hyclones which also always have some people on the various forums screaming 'fraud' and others reporting positive results.

          Cheers,
          Cameron

Re: The Fitch Catalyst - Genuine Improvement or Fake Hype?

Hey, that sounds like a great idea. Seeing as the distributors of both of these products don't seem willing to back up their claims here, or defend the accusations of fraud, some independent tests would be cool.
Interestingly, I've already noticed a good few hits coming in from the search engines to the forum with the phrase "fitch catalyst" - so there seems to be some interest out there.

Hi Robert, This is a reply to your invite, My name is BILL SHEATHER I aM the distributor of FITCH FUEL CATALYST in southern NSW. I am available to answer any question on FITCH and I can assure you it is no hype it actually works as stated. The average user is saving up to two litres of fuel for each 100klms driven. Whilst doing this they are unwittingily reducing their exhaust emission by up to 50% and beyond, and this was proved at BOTANY RTA depot. So the moral of this is if you drive without FITCH your are wasting YOUR money.

Re: The Fitch Catalyst - Genuine Improvement or Fake Hype?

If this "fuel Catalyst" is as effective as they are saying then why don't the car manufacturers fit it as standard, think of all the engine development time it would save as they could use cheaper less effective engines to get the same power , ecomony etc and it would save them millions in R and D. If the Fitch pre catalyses the long chain hydrocarbons (HC's) into shorter chain HC's then this would effect your emmissions surely as you would be burning a lighter fuel? So your NOS emmisions would increase as would you CO2, sure you would get more power but how would is effect you ignition timing so you'd end up with detonation, or knock.

Also as the catalyst is for HC's it would have no effect on Biodiesel, It is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats which conform to ASTM D6751 specifications for use in diesel engines. As this is an organic compound not a straight HC, the chemical reaction would need to be completely different.

Very sceptical as it seems to have no energy imput and seem to work on a non deteriotating chemical reaction so it never degrades , so how does it work?
OK if it's so good and it's been patented then show use how the thing works and the chemical process behind it (and we can then get a independent chemist to review) and I'll be much happier.

Good point - keep 'em coming! If we could get one to evaluate (as long as it is at no cost to ourselves), we could perform some independant tests on it with biodiesel.

Re: The Fitch Catalyst - Genuine Improvement or Fake Hype?

HI guys, There is no problem ingetting a unit for testing as I am one of two people who have control of this product in AUSTRALIA. With the average petrol or diesel vehicle reporting savings of one to two litres saved every 100klms driven i have no qualms what soever in donating one to this forum for evaluating providing it is carried out by a recognised entity. So how much fairer than that can I be? I for one have heard it works on biodiesel so I would be most interested in your findings. One thing I do know it works well on all fossel fuels so go for it.

Cameron - I reckon you migh be best to volunteer as the "registered entity" as you have a proper way of measuring your biodiesel usage, as well as possible access to the uni lab/vehicle testing facility. Wanna put your hand up?

HI, As stated before I am quite prepared to put forward a catalyst for you to test on your biofuel at no cost to you. With the proviso that the test is carried out by a recognised body and not some backyard unit that knows squat of what this is about. And I have indicated contact details for whomever it concernes to carry on with this event.

                            Hi,
I would consider doing it but will need to wait until the start of next year so that it can be linked to some testing facility program here at the Uni.

I assume that the University of New South Wales would be a suitable testing facility for you?

If you can private email me some parameters for the testing that you think would be suitable I can start thinking about it and work out who at the Uni I nee to get to help me.

                            Regards,
                            cameron
