  • Seems we are not as spoiled for choice as the Europeans

I bought a Land Rover Freelander TD4, as I wanted a new economical diesel vehicle. I did not particularly want a 4WD, but that was my only choice at the time.
I've noticed that VW have now released a very nice little diesel in the form of a Golf 1.9 or 2.0L turbo diesel. Unfortunately, they are still quite pricey as they are only newly released.

I'd like to get a small car for my wife, who currently drives a Toyota Corolla. Obviously I'd like a diesel, but she does not want to drive a truck, 4WD, work ute or an old Merc.

An old Peugeot 405 seems to be the only available choice, which is not bad, but surely this is not the only choice? Is Australia that behind that this is the only diesel small(ish) passenger car?

Does anyone else have any suggestions or recommendations?
    Robert.
