  • Nervous about BD?

It's not only the Oil Companies that have their doubts regarding the further use of Biodiesel. I came across this paper by Gilbarco, the petrol pump manufacturer. It is dated 2003, so that may explain some of the unknowns (but not the spelling errors!), but it does go to show some of the doubts and suspicions mainstream industry have about BD. Not surprisingly, the information provided by company affiliates from Europe seem quite tolerant of the impact of BD.

That looks like it was written by their work experience kid. At the moment they tip toe so carefully even around B5 and then say that industry or government will have to pay for testing. It may be a little different in the (possibly too near) future when there is simply not enough dino diesel to only blend 5% biodiesel. These guys really need to wake up. Hopefully in the years since this was written they have educated themselves a bit more (both on biodiesel and the written English language).

I wonder, too, if submissions like this explain Terry Syd's issue regarding Senator Coonan and the setting of Aust Standards to follow Euro rules and ignoring US use of Soybean BD. If Non-Oil industry types are telling the Govt that BD is only OK up to B5 and only if it follows Euro standards (because that's the only workable info they can lay their hands on), could this lack of research have affected lawmaking in Aust? They ought to go back to the Govt and say "We really had done no research to back up our claims, so please disregard our submission".

        Re: Nervous about BD?

Why are people so like sheep????
Nobody Questions what comes out of the fuel corporations petrol pump, but if they actually started collecting little sample jars, particularly of fossil diesel , They'd soon buy a bicycle and an anual metro card. One of the passive members of the Melbourne club (an old retired diesel mechanic) actually did this (not bought a bicycle) and found results ranging from what looked clear to what looked like Guiness.
The only reason we have "Spec." (in my opinion) is to aleviate some of this FEAR.
But at the end of the day experience from all users of BD i know, Meeting spec or not, say their car runs smoother, and engine oil looks cleaner.
And further more what comes out your exhaust is the real tell tale (ask any passionate mechanic) and fossil diesel spews particulates, this means abrassive paticles are in fossil diesel, . They are not in biodiesel!
The car manufacturing companies are in bed with the fossil fuel corporations, they invest in each other, so naturally they will slander according to their own needs.
Funny how a year or two ago their was a big scare on ethenol damaging warranties, then the howard Gov. invested money, gave the Corps kickbacks, then mother nature and her tornadoes spiked the price of oil , then the oposition said they would invest in biofuels if they got the next election, then within 24 hours howard got the australian car manufacturers to do a total backflip on new car warranties, OVERNIGHT!! and now they garantee waranties of ethenol in petrol cars,, Go figure!!!?????..
Dont be a sheep, grow your own brain, and dont believe the hype.! Anyway ALL CARS WILL **** UP EVENTUALLY, its the nature of the machine, otherwise model t fords would still be cruising around being driven by graphic artists and advertising execs.
        Darren.

          Hi Gunner,
You are right Biodiesel is a superiour fuel that runs in a superiour engine but it also needs superiour quality control!

Gilbralco has written a good report it just is not relevant for the End user if their new diesel (post 94) car is filled up on 100% good quality biodiesel.

          ***Check with manufacturer*****
***Aim of recommended max blends may be a very general rule incorperating existing diesel seller needs and older diesel cars***
