• question,buying & fitting new injectors

I can buy brand new injectors for around $280 set of 6 to suit my landcruiser 60 series 2h motor. Can anyone tell me please, is it as simple as taking the old ones out and putting the new ones in, or do they have to be individually set and/or adjusted to suit the IP ETC.
useing special equipment, that i dont have.
also can you simply dismantle an injector, clean it up ,put it back together & reinstall it,or once again is the some special adjustments needed
thanks

I am surprised nobody posted any reply to this topic. I do have the same questions too.

I think replacing the injectors only requires average tools, but rebuilding them needs specialist tools.

Hi Chris,

It would be very helpful if there are some photos and guide on how to service this part of the engine. I am sure it will help if anything went wrong with vegy users.

Re: question, buying & fitting new injectors

I have noticed that a lot of veg conversion kits contain new injectors. Does anyone know if these are just new original types or are they different or modified in some way?

Does anyone know what sort of ballpark money is charged to service/clean injectors on a merc and how much to set the pump correctly?

I don't know anything about it, but I do believe the use of a special box spanner with the cut out to slot the line through should be used on pipe fittings like on injectors to prevent crushing the hollow and often delicate connector.

Im sure there must be a tutorial on changing injectors somewhere on the web, if anyone finds one, please be sure to post up a link here.

Re: question, buying & fitting new injectors

To change over the injectors on the 4lt 2h is a simple job, firstly clean around all the injectors with compressed air so no dirt etc falls into cylinder, remove the small clamps holding the fuel lines together from memory theres four of them.they look like little metal sandwiches with a 10 mm nut on top there on the manifod and theres a sneaky one under the throttle body undo the nuts of the injection pipes (17mm ) while holding the body of the injector(1,1/4"?)on all six you can then manouver the lines out of the way dont try to bend them too far they are somewhat flexible but if you go mad you can crack them, next remove the nuts from return line(19mm) also remove rubber return line, lift off return line make sure you dont lose any of the washers from under the return line, then undo and remove all the injectors, make sure you get all the sealing washers out , some times they come out stuck to the injectors sometimes there stuckin the head if they are fish them out with a piece of wire. Put them back in in reverse manner use new sealing washers tourqe the injector bodies into the head at 69nm then return line nuts (dont forget to refit the return line washers)to 49 nm then your delivery nuts only a bit over hand tight, start her up then crack each one to bleed them of any air (chuck a bit of rag over your spanner so you dont spray fuel eveywhere) when you crack each injector you will hear the motor chug the same as if you pull a lead on a petrol engine there shouldnt be a great deal of air to expel as we didnt remove the lines from the pump leave them cracked for 3to 6 seconds you can have a look under the rag but be careful you dont get squirted in the eye. after you have bleed them all tourqe the delivery nuts to 29 nm , dont forget to reinstall the rubber fuel return line and clamp plus the clamps that hold the fuel lines together and thats about it all up probably 2 to 3 hours and a hand full of tools
cheers shayne

Re: question, buying & fitting new injectors

The elsbett kits for landcruisers has new injector patrs that require specialst tools. I am unsure of other kits.
Sorry Fintan I have not done this, or taken photos of it.

Re: question, buying & fitting new injectors

I just had my mitsubishi triton rebuilt (2.5turbo) and it cost $46 per injector. The engine rebuilders have taken the injectors out many time whilst trying to find some problems, they tell me they have to be calibrated on a machine if not new.

Sorry it doens't cost $46 each time, they just pull them out and put them back in, just like spark plugs.

Re: question, buying & fitting new injectors

I remember at Tech when we were shown how to calibrate injectors, we screwed them into a machine and hand cranked a lever (and watched a pressure gauge) until they sprayed and then from memory we had to re-shim them so they would either let-go at a lower pressure or at a higher pressure, was quite simple but time comsuming! Cheers
