  • transferring wvo

Hi from new bd novice - I plan on making bd
for my kubota ride-on before filling up my Toyota Prado
-I have access to wvo from my local fish&chips shop
and wonder how to get it home without too much fuss?

I have minimal mechanical knowledge of pumps but am
quite ok with plumbing and general handyman stuff

Super Cheap auto have a ~$40 manual fuel pump
that looks cheap and nasty - one turns a short handle
    - it has about a 1metre stem that goes into the drum and short nozzle for output -? likely to be any good for
sucking up wvo into another container

Would I be better off getting a 12v oil/fuel pump
from a marine shop to do this job?

?other options I haven't thought of (I don't want to
    use a bailer!)

I do plan on using new vegetable oil to start though

    Thanks for any feedback

    Re: transferring wvo

Hi and welcome to the forum,

yeah this was a bit issue for me as well. Now I supply shops with open 20 litre drums. Makes getting liquid and solid oil easier to decant. I have used a saucepan in the past and poured into containers. A little messy but good control with a funnel. Its the solid stuff (tallow) that gets a bit more annoying to deal with.

Incidently where in brissy are you?

      Thanks Joe

-maybe I'll try the bailer idea after all for awhile

I had a peak inside the storage vessel they use and
apart from a thin layer of solidified fat on top it was
      liquid

I like your idea of picking up 20l containers though
as this solves the problem completely of needing to
      transfer

I am on the southside near Carindale
