I was wondering (forgive me if this is a truly stupid idea)....
since materials have different weights (even those combined solution) why couldn't we separate glycerine from the biodiesel in vegetable oil using a centrifuge? (they use this idea for separating blood couldn't it also work in the biodiesel making process???)

P.S don't ask me how we would drain off the biodiesel in the process i havent thought that far ahead yet!!!

    Adam,
That is exactly how the glycerol separation in a continuous biodiesel process is done.
There are centrifugal separators for cream from milk and many other substances including biodiesel and glycerol.

If you are considering purchasing a centrifuge give me a call. We help start-up biodiesel producers often.

I can remember 20 years ago going into Gerald Maggs the last of the ironmongers in Dandenong where they had second hand hand operated (made in India) cream separators for sale. They were sold mainly to truckers to refilter their brake fluid and reuse it. I wonder if this source of cheap separators is still available ex India?
Bush mechanics is not a new idea.
