  • Making biodiesel using WVO

I am new to the game of bd and am looking to use waste vegetable oil to make bd for use in my 82 hilux ute and 85 landcruiser. Have read heaps about different techniques & processes.(getting quite confused!) Any ideas on what is the easiest & most effective way of using wvo to make biodiesel for myself, and also what is the safest. Have also read a lot about having to change filters and fuel lines etc, any extra things i need to be aware of?

    Re: Making biodiesel using WVO

Hello Darcy, welcome to the exciting world of biodiesel.

First rule: NEVER drink, inhale, or wash any part of your body with anything you are using to make biodiesel.
If you can remember that rule you should be pretty right.

For the easiest method of Making your first few test batches of biodiesel you can not beat the World Famous Dr Pepper Technique (Pat Pend)

The VAST majority of people experience no problems when switching to biodiesel.
Inspect your fuel lines and replace any that look questionable. Then just keep an eye on them.
Carry a spare fuel filter and tools to change it just in case.
If your fuel filters are old it would be wise to change them after a few weeks of biodiesel use.

Re: Making biodiesel using WVO - methanol use

After speaking to a friend about making biodiesel i was told that i needed a licence to buy methanol, and apparently the licence is very expensive. I was also told that the regulations regarding use and recording is very stringent, is this true? How do other people deal with this issue, or is it not really an issue at all?

        Daran
I was told the same thing by a supplier but when they checked it applied to racing fuel, high octane petrol. Just remember model plane fliers buy and use methanol all the time, perhaps a good place to buy small quantities or find a supplier is via the nearest model plane club.

Look in Sydney Biodiesel Supplies Section for my thread on Newcastle Methanol Supplies.

This applies to Ethanol, not Methanol
