Can someone give me some advice regarding Methanol, my supplier has been supplying me with race quality methanol at a price of around $1.50 to $2.00 a litre. He tell's me that there is an industrial grade methanol that I can source for a $1 a litre. The question is, would this grade of methanol be suitable and has anyone used it ?

    Re: Methanol

Seeing noone has replied I'll jump in, I have read that the percentage of Methonol is what you should use as a guide. 98-99% is what you should be aiming at. Other wise you have other rubbish in your biodiesel and glycerine.

    Anyone else.

      Re: Methanol

I think industrial grade ($1 ltr)is ok but the main thing is that methanol absorbs moisture from the air like the lye does, so it must be kept air tight. Any water getting into the process will cause soap to form.
