I was going to write a procedure for making BD from WVO but there are so many good resources on the Internet why would I "reinvent the wheel".
There has been much conjecture about the "Journey To Forever" website with regards to Health and Safety and their "open style processing". So I've come across another system that has been highly praised for its simplicity and closed systems employing the use...wait for it...bottles and lids. It is known as the World Famous DR Pepper Technique (Pat Pend).
I like the design as it allows one to get started with nothing more than the ingredients and a few closed containers. Also the author discusses the importance of safety and has a bit of a sense of humour.
Thankfully the author use metric measurements but they use NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide). So remember if you are using KOH (Potassium Hydroxide) you need to multiply your amounts by 1.4 to get the correct amounts. Typically you should start with 4.9(5) grams of KOH as a base plus titration but you can increase this to 7 grams as it seems to improve the conversion. But start with a base of 3.5 NaOH or 5 KOH plus titration and then experiment once you get things right.
