Butanol

Hi all, Rather than just complaining about the high price of petrol I have been trying to do something about it. After an extensive net search I have decided that the best option is to make BioButanol through the ABE process.

However I have been unable to find a supplier for the Clostridium acetobutylicum bacteria within Australia. Any advice on obtaining a sample or info on acquiring the import permit would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Butanol

Toby,
Welcome to the forum.
I doubt that this information has been shared on the forum before and I do not know of any suppliers of that bacteria, or even how to obtain import permit for an overseas purchase. A quick search has found only 2 earlier enquiries in the past 12 months or so. There was no response from other Forum members to those enquiries, so little is known here on biobutanol production.

I agree that biobutanol is the way to go for Spark Ignition engines, but there seems to be little impetus for the research to be commercialised or even distributed at "grass roots" level.

I have a number of SI engines which would benefit from home made biobutanol so please keep us updated on the process and supplier fronts.

Do you have any links to processes, which you would care to share with forum members.

Regards,
Tony
