Post Straight from the cow to biodisel

(automatically updated/inserted from The Big Biofuels Blog)

Over on Domestic fuel there's a piece about a tallow rendering plant giving? selling? its output to a biodiesel producer.

Is it any wonder that the price of tallow is rising globally? Will the refiners be paying the market rate for the tallow or are they getting it at a fixed price or free?

Re: Straight from the cow to biodisel

tallow based stuff seems to being bought back a a rate of 10c a litre from the commercial consumers (restaurants) in perth i found out after looking at the question, but i would think that once the oil sellers pass it on they would put a couple of cents a litre on i guess that is dependent upon demand.

Re: Straight from the cow to biodisel

you wanna make tallow get some shin bones from cattle chuck em in the oven on a rack over a tray, extraction is fair, but would cost a packet on gas i reckon when we make brown stock (as chefs) you brown the bones you get pure beef fat clean as any veg oil totally pure.
heaps better than the stuff they have buggered around with for fat fying

AR Fuels, processed Tallow into biodiesel at its Adelaide and Picton plants until the rising price of tallow made it uneconomic to continue.

They have since ceased operations in Australia

Tony

Re: Straight from the cow to biodisel

SO had I and both they and ABG closed when the tallow reached $1000 a tonne and the price of fuel was 1.20. Now at 1.70 + you would think it would be economical to start again.

I heard either ABG or one inDarwin had turn to making Glycerine.
