1996 Mazda 626 Diesel

Japanese import. Looks the same as a 1988-92 Australian model 626. Supercharged diesel. White manual sedan. It blows heaps and heaps of smoke. Loses heaps of oil. Every time you start it it runs terrible for anytime between 10 seconds to a minute. After which time it will go fine. Mechanic said not worth trying to fix it.

Looking for something more than $100, because Pick'n'Payless will give me at least this. Located Glossodia, north-west Sydney.

Re: 1996 Mazda 626 Diesel

It looks like this 626.

It's a manual. I just cancelled the rego today, so no rego. It says about 140,000km but the odometer no longer works and I don't know for how long it has not been working.

Re: 1996 Mazda 626 Diesel

I don't have any photos but it looks like an ordinary 1988-92 australian 626. It has about 140,000km but the odometer no longer works, and I'm not sure for how long it hasn't worked. I think you'd struggle to find a replacement engine. Other parts would be fairly easy to find I think. I just cancelled the rego today, so no rego.

As you can see I already posted this info but for some reason that post took ages to show up.

Re: 1996 Mazda 626 Diesel

The Mazda Capella looks like the GD seried 626.
the differences are mainly that the Japanese import has 4 stud 13" rims and the Aussie spec car had 5 stud 14" rims & the indicators and lights are non interchangable. Some have unusual accessories like exterior RV mirrors which electrically fold in to prevent damage while parked.
The engine is the RF7 series diesel engine, which was available in the Bongo van in NA and Turbo versions.
The NA version in a manual is nippy, but a manual with the supercharged engine will rocket you to the front of the traffic. Much more sprightly than a 300D!
Most maintenance parts are available through Veale's and if you say it is for a Bongo, from the Dealerships. They will not want to supply you with parts if you say it is a Capella Diesel. (That was my experience anyway)
