Ebay reusable visable (glass)oil/fuel filter

These have been selling for only $1.00
postage plus exchange is around $15.00 all up.

What do our seniors (experts) think of these.

Re: Ebay reusable visable (glass)oil/fuel filter

I had one of these in my WVO converted Mazda Capella.
  • The filter surface area is small, meaning that it needs to be cleaned frequently if you have any contaminants in the system,
  • They are expensive,
  • The filter is suitable as a prefilter before the fuel pump, or as a "rock catcher" just before the IP, but not as the only filter in your system,
  • It is easy to break the glass and you cannot buy replacements in australia.

how do you figa they are expensive at 99c start and $15 all up with postage??
you could rap the glass in some padding like insalashion or just be careful where you mount it so it dont bang on anything and at that price you could just by a few so you had the replacement parts.
i dunno how good the plastic end fittings wood be under a hot engine of if they wood last with biodiesel running thru them.
i thort about rock catchers as well because thay are really a strainer not a filta and wouldnt stop anything very small witch is really what you want.
they are probably good for something but i cant think what that wood be.

Re: Ebay reusable visable (glass)oil/fuel filter

Filters with significantly higher surface area can be purchased for as little as $5.00 each with no postage, from a filtration shop.
I have successfuly back flushed these prefilters (as used in the 300D) and re-used them many times over.

Yup, more expensive.

I refer to them as "rock catchers" for people to use if they wish to have a GP heater after the main fuel filter. These do not stop anything unless the GP heater loses some lumps of carbon, which is when the rock catcher hopefully catches most of the big bits, rather than letting them into the IP.

Regards,
Tony

Re: Ebay reusable visable (glass)oil/fuel filter

I bought one from local AutoOne for $22 when I had an algae problem blocking up my tiny filter in the IP inlet. It came with 3/8 barb ends (metal) and it let no algae through and was easy to clean out. I overtightened on reassembly and the glass cracked a few km's down the road.
I have since bought another and in between used a dismantleable sintered brass filter.
