Info overload!! Basic questions on running biodiesel in a reco 2h Landcruiser Diesel

Hi everybody!!

I've read some of the forums, and I don't understand a lot of what has been written. What I do understand is that with diesel pushing $1.60/L, i'm keen on finding a cheaper, cleaner alternative!!

Here are some issues that I've come across so far:

* I've read that some seals in the diesel pump may have to be changed as the biodiesel can rot them, and cause some leakages.

* As the biodiesel is like a solvant, particals from your fuel tank can clog up your filter. I run 2 filters (one changable, the other a water catcher)

* Is my engine going to blow up? I've read that it burns cleaner, so the oil will stay cleaner as well

*What - if anything - should i do to my vehicle before starting to add biodiesel?

*Where can i get it?? I've only got two names in victoria so far??

I know that these are basic questions, but I want to be sure before I start running biodiesel and blow the crank outside of the block!!

Thanks for reading guys!!

ah ha you joined.
since you have a 60 series a few guys here could tell you their experiences regarding seals. try a PM to Oily.

personally i never had the filter problem but most do and this is only temperary until all the diesel crud has been lifted from the tank and fuel lines. what most people do is install one of those cheap $3 inline filters before the separator and OEM filter. this is so the cheappies will clog insted of the $20 OEM filters. always carry spares of both and have the ability and tools to change them on the side of the road. once the tank is cleaned only at regular service intervals will the filter require changing.

your engine isn't going to blow up the old 2h enginess love bio they are infact one of the most suitable engines for for bio or veg.
it does burn cleaner, my exhaust doesn't blow soot anymore but my oil is still black as hell at 5000.

before you start adding biodiesel add the cheappie filter in to the fuel line and carry lots of spares.

i don't know where you can get it in VIC but others should be able to assist you. If you can get a supply of waste vege oil you should start making it yourself.

Keep on reading up and asking questions after all thats how we all started.
And welcome to the forum.
Cheers Nick.
