| What are you paying for commercial Biodiesel? I went down to buy some bio the other day and found it has jumped again to $1.54/L. What they seem to be doing is matching it against the petroleum diesel pricing which is about $1.55/L right now. This is a refined waste product made from used cooking oil that this company sells then collects as part of a kind of contractual agreement. In other words they sell virgin oil to businesses then resell the same oil after it has been used, refining it into a fuel that sells at a similar price. It's a great money spinner for someone involved, unfortunately not the consumer who at this price can only be doing it for environmental reasons.
I can see that while they don't pay for the waste product, it does cost them to have it transported and processed and of course there is government excise and staff to pay. But does it really cost so much? What I was told was that the manufacturers dictate the price and if I have any problems with what the fuel is doing to my car, talk to Citroen. I have not seen any evidence of any fuel standards for the stuff I'm buying, just a verbal assurance. I've also signed a disclaimer form which distances the company from any problems related to the fuel.
Are you guys paying this much for commercial biodiesel? I am not aiming to tarnish a local business doing the right thing, if their prices are fair in the big picture and the fuel meets strict standards, then I will accept that.
