common rail and biodiesel

I'm only just starting to get interested in biodiesel and it's possibilities. I have noticed or been told conflicting stories though about the suitability of biodiesel for the newer style common rail diesel motors. Can someone tell me whether or not they will run on it please? Also any thing to be aware of.
I'm considering getting a new ute and making bio so i need to know if I can buy new or must go 2nd hand and get a conventional style motor.

Re: common rail and biodiesel

My Landrover Series 2 td5 has done about 90,000kms on biodiesel. It has a common rail fuel management system. I do water wash my biodiesel throughly so that SG is about 0.84 (fossil is about 0.82). My vehicle runs really well.

GO for it and have a lot of rewarding fun making it.

Re: common rail and biodiesel

I'm thinking of a Mitsubishi Triton dual cab, they seem to have the most leg room in the back and the kids are getting taller. Does anyone know anything about how these behave with home made bio diesel.

Hi Warren,

I have converted a triton last year to a two tanks system. It is running on home made biodiesel and wvo with no dramas.

Contact gewizztoo for more info.

Cheers

Hi Fitian,

I'm very new to all this, when you say a 2 tank system does that mean it runs on unconverted waste vege oil? Is it the common rail model? I'm thinking of setting up to make biodiesel from waste oil, as from what I've read so far it seems to be a better thing for the motor. Is this correct?

The price of fuel is getting ridiculous and as I'm in a country area we tend to drive a lot and fuel prices are a bit higher than in the city. So I'm asking a lot of questions before I decide to commit myself.

Cheers,
Warren.
