Re: Heating biodiesel in cold weather

I like it!!
Nothing better than some bush mechanics,
I think some would be suspect of it as the wiring goes in the oil but that said the oil is non-conducting and quite safe providing its de-watered

Re: Heating biodiesel in cold weather

The video is great. I'm a little suprised that the elec wiring sits exposed in the fuel water trap. What vehicle is this as I'd not seen such a fuel system set up previously.

I was liking the idea but now that I see how you've done it I can see that it wont work on my LandCruiser.

Thanks for the video, I'm sure it will be an insiration for others.

Do you have manual cantrol over the light from inside the car or is it just on whenever the ignition is on?

Re: Heating biodiesel in cold weather

Thanks for the comments.
The vechile is a 1980 hilux and toyota went to a different set up with there water traps in the mid 80s sometime. The later model water traps are part of the fuel filter with the float on the bottom. I think some jap import nissans are the same. I havent tryed to fit a light bulb to one of the late model filters but I think the process would be the same, you can get smaller light bulbs with the same wattage if space is an issue. I think it would work better with a late model filter as the heat would be going straght into the filter melting any gell more quickly. I use to have a switch on the dash, But I just left in on all the time and the ute goes better with warm fuel, so i got rid of the switch. I wasnt happy with the wireing in the fuel, but is hasnt been an issue so far.

Sorry, should have commented. Looks good, but I have a standard filter set-up for a Gen.2 Surf and it wouldn't fit. If I could get one like yours, I'd probably install it, as it would be much cheaper for filter elements, and even a primer. Well done!
