Biodiesel from dregs.

Howdy,
I've just joined this forum so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place etc.
I've just set up my Ford Trader with a dieselveg wvo system. I've yet to run it on any oil yet. I was wondering, after all the filtering and settling of the oil for the truck, is it advisable or possible to make biodiesel from the oil dregs in my filter / settling tanks and use that either as a blend with the veg oil or as start up diesel.

Re: Biodiesel from dregs.

You're dead right, don't waste it. Filter out the crumbs, check for water and dry it if necessary as the creamy/fatty stuff can be quite 'moist' - then convert it into biodiesel.

Re: Biodiesel from dregs.

Mind that from living in the blue mountains your "dregs" biodiesel will probably want to gel at this time of year. Save it and use it for a summer blend.

I reuse my dregs at every oppurtunity. I pour all of my water affected, scummiest chippiest bits of oil I have around and reuse it when I get to 20 litres.

Re: Biodiesel from dregs.

I give my dregs to another forum member to make biodiesel.
Eventually I will get to it myself.
