Landcruiser, the "Battered Fish"

The Brisbane Times with a positive news story -

Sydney-born civil engineer, Gerard Mimmo, 36, and his 28-year-old English wife, Rachel, are not visiting the petrol station every third day, instead the couple have outfitted a six-cylinder diesel Toyota Landcruiser to run on vegetable oil.
They have dubbed their Landcruiser, the "Battered Fish", because that is what is smells like as it powers along.
The smart-thinking pair - he's just finished his Masters in science studying sustainability, while she is a corporate lawyer - plan to travel 30,000 kilometres around Australia.
The trip will take in north Queensland, northern Australia and the red centre before the pair head back to Sydney for Christmas Eve.

Re: Landcruiser, the "Battered Fish"

Speaking of which they where supposed to call me Monday about collecting some oil for their journey.

I hope they're OK.

I bet they got caught up at Byron watching glassy winter sunrises and having pancakes with bacon and eggs and maple syrup, looking at Julien Rocks.

Ahh Byron Bay.....

I might get to see some of your handy work fitian, I was just asking around about electrical gear to do the conversion. Is there a thread on it with it ALL in it anywhere?

Do I detect another 'convert' from bio? Fitian has had success with Sean, who still makes bio for his Jackaroo and for startup but runs his 300D on WVO.
What are you converting Joe?
I don't think there is a thread with it ALL. Electrical gear - I guess the pollak, switch, couple of leds (optional) and some wiring and connectors, or you could go all mechanical as Froggo has done (I think).
Lots of info on the svo users sub forum.

Time and space were both very tight with this vehicle.

All land cruisers I have converted came with one battery. This one came with three. There was hardly any space to place the parts where I normally have. See photos.

This is not my best handy work as far as mounting things neatly. But I know it works.

Also the vehicle had some performance issues to start with. So we had to send it back to the mechanic who done work on it for checks before the conversion.

Gerard sent an SMS this afternoon saying "All going well with the car".

I do wish them both a very safe tour around OZ.

And she's pretty hot too.

There is an update dated 14th May on their blog. Haven't read it yet though but I'll be following their progress. And I hope they pop in here from time to time to give us their news.

I don't know what you're talking about, it looks awesome. You're far too modest and a perfectionist. I'm sure they will have no problems with your conversion on their trip (as long as they filter properly!)
