Is vegetable oil classified as flammable material?
I am certain that the shops I collect from, many of which would store at least 200 litres, do not conform to these requirements.
What about the cooking oil distributors with many thousands of litres stored?
Do they conform to these requirements?

Biodiesel - sure - flammable.
New Vegetable Oil = food, requiring proper food storage.
Used Cooking Oil = waste food, requiring proper waste food storage (whatever that is).
Perhaps someone should inquire of gov't about food storage.
As for me,I'm keeping quiet about my xxxlitres of food in storage.

Hi 98Toppy,
I was told the old and new oil is not a problem, unless in large quantities. Measured in tonnes. Ie approx 1 thousand litres. The problem the EPA have seems to be in the disposal and where the waste maybe going.
or that is what I "took" from my conversation with them.

Troopy there is a difference between flamable and combustible.
Metho is flamable.
Diesel (and I assume biodiesel) are combustible.
This is a big difference on the amount and the transport and storage requirements according to Hazmat requirements.

Smokey beat me to it.

There is a big differance between Flammable and Combustable. The way the classification is worked out is to do with the Flash Point.

Petro Diesel is classed as Combustable. Next time you happen to see a freight train with fuel tankers look at the signs on them. If it says Flammable it's a fair bet they have or did have petrol in em. If it reads Combustable it's diesel for sure.

As far as i knew BD is classed as treated vegetable oil. and can legally be stored in food grade containers they don't have to be Fuel grade.

Re: EPA in QLD for WVO "big brother"

This is an interesting post. I went to my local fish and chip shop recently only to be told that they were no longer able to give away their WVO because of a EPA law (as of 08/06/2008) mandating that they give their oil to the recyclers. I'm not sure if I was fed this line so that everyone else who was getting their WVO from here would have competition or perhaps the oil recycling people had told them that they could no longer give their oil to who ever they wanted. Either way, it sounded (and still sounds) like rubbish.

Re: EPA in QLD for WVO "big brother"

Gday RustyNQ,My suggestion is that you make enquiries that you become a recycler yourself and that way you have beaten these waste recyclers at their own game.regards westwinds.

Rusty,
Ask your (ex?) supplier who told him, the EPA or the Oil collection company.
If it was the oil collectors, you should check with the EPA yourself to verify the story. In WA we can legally collect the oil, with Dept of Environment approval.

Regards,
Tony
