Help Needed

Hello Group,

I am doing a research on transit bus exhaust emissions running on Bio-diesel & ULSD fuels. I am Master's student and working for my thesis.

I am planning to develop a model to predict the emission behavior of the buses using a regression-tree analysis.

Can any one guide me of what information do I need to gather in order to develop a statistical model.

Thank you

Re: Help Needed

Also, I have collected emission data on some buses when the bus was out, on the road, for its regular schedule. I have compared buses running on B20 and ULSD fuels.

The test results show that B20 fueled buses emitted a lower concentration of all the monitored pollutants expect for CO2, which showed a 3% increase as compared to ULSD fueled buses. NO concentrations were observed to reduce by 7%. SO2 and NO2 for B20 fuel showed nearly 9% and 4% reductions respectively. NOX concentration was observed to reduce by 3% for B20 fueled buses.
I have made these comparisons based on the exhaust emission data collected. All the buses have approximately same mileage.

Re: Help Needed

kendale,
Thanks for posting the results you have, comparing B20 and ULSD and welcome to the forum.

I know nothing about developing statistical models or even what they are???
Perhaps a forum devoted to statistics may be of greater benefit to you in this matter.

Can anyone help?

Tony

Re: Help Needed

Hi Kendale,

Nice work. But Tony is right, you're better off going to somebody who knows a hell of a lot about stats and nothing about biodiesel.

I'm sure there would be someone at Uni who can help you? If you don't have a Stats department try somebody researching Bioinformatics etc...

My initial impression is that you would need data from at least three different biodiesel blends before you could put together a model (which will be a nightmare), But then again I'm no statistician!

Best of luck.

Re: Help Needed

Ya we do have a Stats department......I will try their.

I am also going to obtain data for B5 and B10 too for 2 buses each.

I will post the results of these blends soon.

Thank You

Re: Help Needed

kendale, I look forward to reading your results and conclusions.

When will the paper be published and can we have access to a copy? Perhaps even host an online copy as reference information as I did with the paper by Phil Calais and myself from 2001.
Information is power. Shared information makes the community strong, so that those with power are not able to walk all over us.

Regards,
Tony

Re: Help Needed

Yes I will post the paper when I finish it. But this would be my first paper and I am a novice in paper writing.
You were mentioning about some paper, could you please post that paper here again which can help me in understanding the skills in paper writing.

Also, today I have tested a bus running on B10. But I can not post any results because am going to test the bus again tomorrow for sensitivity analysis.

Thanks
