    20 Litre oil Containers

Gday,I have about 300 20 litre oil tins that where piling up and its was getting to be too many to take to the tip unless i paid.I tried driving the tractor over them and to my surprize they crushed up really well without damageing the tractor tyres.I weighed 5 crushed tins and they weighed 8 kilos.I went to our scrap metal dealer and asked if he was interested in these tins and he said he would pay $65 a tonne delivered.According to my calculations each tin is worth $1.04.I hav'nt delivered them yet but will post the results. Regards Westwinds

Good one, except the scrap dealer is not doing you any favours. I get paid $195/ tonne at Simms metal for light steel including tins. Guess you have to take what you can get out in the country as taking them hundreds of ks to the city aint going to be a smart move. Still, better than you paying at the dump. I reckon your maths are a little out so don't expect to get $300 more like $30
Sometimes my tins are worth a little more as rain gets in them by mistake

That amounts to half a ton of scrap as you rightly calculated.
$65 a ton for scrap is a ripoff.

There is a wrecker I know in the country who has a guy come to him to pick up the scrap and even he pays $120 a ton when he comes and collects it!

If there is any other scrap place around where you may make the occasional trip i'd say its well worth giving them a call and seeing what they will pay.
If you were being paid the right price, you calculations would be a bit closer to the mark!
