Exclamation Can tobacco be used for Bio diesel??

I work at a tobacco cigarette company. We have scrap tobacco dust(fine ground tobacco as you would see in a cigarette) Can this plant material be used to make biodiesel? How much would I need to send any one to experiement? We put in the dumpster about a ton a day. If this by-product could be used what a great material. There are tobacco companies in many states and give the stuff away mek@duo-county.com

Re: Can tobacco be used for Bio diesel??

OMickey,
It is an interesting proposition, but does the tobacco have any oils or fats (triglycerides) in it, especially in the form you have available.

I doubt that it does.

If I am correct in my feeling that Tobacco wastes have little or no triglycerides, then it would not be possible for these wastes to be part of the biodiesel process.

Does any other member have any advice on whether it could be used for ethanol or butanol production?

Regards,
Tony
