Water in Oil

Hi folks, I am new to the forum but have been an avid reader of it for some time, and have gained quiet a bit of knowledge from it. So thanks to all you contributors.

I am driving a Mercedes Vito 108 and have been running it on B100 bought from bioworks for about two years and it has been all good. I am starting to move to making my own fuel now, and have been collecting oil in preparation for a month or so.

After reading some posts where the drying of oil has been discussed and looking at a couple of other website sites for more info on the subject It has occurred to me that the oil I have collected may well have a fair bit of water in it.

On a post today Tony from West Oz Tony has suggested heating to 60C and then bubbling air through it.

I was thinking about putting a 200l drum on a gas burner out in the yard to warm it up but how do I bubble air through it?

I would be keen to hear how other folks go about drying their Oil.

Cheers

Alex

Re: Water in Oil

Cone bottom tank, 45 degrees would be great. Heat it t0 60, let settle for a little while then drian off the water that gathers at the bottom. Its worth the trouble.

Re: Water in Oil

Hi,
If I have oil with water in it I add around 30 litres of glycerine to it (150 litres of oil), heat it up and agitate it as if your were reacting it. Then let it settle for few hours and drain the glycerine off. Your oil will now be ready to titrate and react.
If you have no glycerine as yet you may need to just heat as mentioned above or ask around for glycerine, I'm sure someone will give you some.
Cheers, Chris

Re: Water in Oil

An aquarium bubbler and air pump could be used. Just remember, aquarium air pumps will not pump air too deep into the tank, so adjust the bubbler depth to compensate for the "head" of oil above the bubbler.

Have fun,

Tony
