BD Blends in cold weather

I'm currently running B40 in my new i30.

Being in Melbourne, temps of 5-10 degrees overnight is typical.

I've noticed that at around 5 degrees the bio goes almost solid.

My question is - will a blend avoid the problem of solidifying biodiesel or will there always be some high melting point oil that remains solid at low temps in your tank - which requires having some kind of heating system prior to the fuel filter?

Hi Whoflungdung

I dont know what type of oil you are using, try 10ml of isopropal alcohol in a liter of oil, and leave it outside overnight, if it does not freeze you have a winner, then you can mix 200ml per 20liter oil, and your problem will be solved.
Our tempratures here in South Africa go down to 1 deg and the above method works well, let me know how you fare.

Regards

Alan

THanks for the tip I will try it out.

Could you use methylated spirits instead of isoprop ???
