    Matt,

Thanks for the reply, yeah they are the numbers i use. Most batches end up a total of around 6 or 6.5 grams of Naoh per litre for me. occasionally I will run across some toxic stuff that pushes through 9. still makes great fuel though.

having said that I did the warnie's conversion test and yes I do have some left over oil. I guess that possibly my mix goes a little cold durinig the agitation? I am reluctant to put too much more caustic in, but perhaps I should try a little batch to test. I routinely check my specific gravity and it has never deviated from 0.88. What do you think?

I live in Griffin, (near mango hill on the highway north bound), nice spot typical subburban house, but with an over used garden shed!!!

You are welcome to come over for a beer one day and talk rubbish if you are so interested.

    Kind regards,

    Cade.

Cade, must be very old as I have doen many many batches with KOH. If I remember the basics 3.5 is the base for clean oil, if its been cooked then a little more will aid the reaction. At a base of 3.5 then you may not get complete transesterification and have remaining oil. This is not a bad thing necessarily but in modern diesels I would tend to good conversion.

Where in Brisbane are you? I am in East Brisbane.
