Looking for a diesel car to put biodiesel in

Hi,

What are the options in terms of a diesel sedan/hatch for using with biodiesel?

I thought about getting an old 300d Merc but i'm scared it would be a lot of trouble to maintain.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

I have been reliab;y informed they are but that does not make it certain. I recommend giving a Hyundai dealer a call. AFAIK they are common rail which runs fine on good (GOOD) bio.

Re: Looking for a diesel car to put biodiesl in

I will ring to check, but last time i checked a few months ago they weren't importing them.

I did discover that VW have started selling the TDI Polo here.

Is that any good for Bio Diesel?

The last I heard was that there were 2 diesel Hyundai Getz imported purely for evaluation purposes only.
For a good list of diesel passenger cars both old (...remember the diesel Holden Gemini) and new, see this link http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/car-r...00945&R=ce7922
and look for the heading Used Passenger Car Diesels in Australia.

Re: Looking for a diesel car to put biodiesl in

Sorry o hear they were only for eval at this stage, they would be a good car to get. Small, cheap (relatively) and economical.

The Polo TDi may be a good choice, if it goes anything like the Golf TDi then buy it! I have driven the Golf and boy does it go. More like, if not better than my Peugeot 205GTi!

I have read that the Yanks are runnign the TDi motors on Bio so I see no reason as long as you make it well, wash and wash some more, sry it properly and enjoy!

They will have synthetic seals and if you really are keen, get a set of biodiesel compatible fuel hoses from one of the sites offering them.

G'day mates,

I'm new here but a mate of mine in Canada runs his VW Golf TDI on home made biodiesel, he has pictures of his car and other items on his site at http://www.nonprofitfuel.ca/

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Re: Looking for a diesel car to put biodiesl in

I'm looking at getting the Volkswagen Golf TDI new for use with biodiesel but I was told by the dealer that using biodiesel would void my warranty.

My questions are:
1.) Would Volkswagen be likely to want to enforce this restriction if I were ever to take the car for repair under warranty?
2.) If they did want to enforce it, is there anyway they could prove I have been using biodiesel? Logically, wouldn't they just be able to tell by how clean the engine is (lack of buildup of glug etc..)?

Basically I want to know whether the warranty issue should preclude me from using biodiesel for the duration of the warranty period.

Thanks in advance

Re: Looking for a diesel car to put biodiesl in

I was messaging with a fellow Pug owner (405 SRDT) in another thread and he said a mate of his gave him a drive in a new Golf diesel. He said it drives like an "F1" car compared to the ageing 405.
Timothy did the dealer show you the warranty statement that says using BD will void your warranty, or did he just say it? What concentration does VW consider as a "warranty voiding" concentration...B5, B20, B50, B100???
It looks like the major diesel fuel suppliers wil be using 5% Biodiesel (B5) in their ultra low sulphur fuels as a lubricant so you probably won't be able to avoid some contact during the warranty period.
