Question Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Hi,

I have just joint the forum as I am trialling B50 in our 2 year old C5 Station Wagon.

So far I found that there has been a noticable reduction in smell and smoke (even if there was not a lot in the first place)

It is also nice that my hands don't smell after filling up.

I get the B50 from the Ralley Service Station in Marickville.

Has anybody had experience with using Biodiesel in Citroens?

I have read on some German Web sites that there have been failures in Bosch diesel pumps.

Re: Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Not sure if its the same but my Peugeot 307HDi is running B100 for over 20,000km with no hassle at all, so far, fingers crossed!

Re: Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Hi ARKH, I'm not sure if you know or not, but both Citroens and Peugeots share a common diesel engine (they both go down the same production line, just different rocker covers) so any experience for a Peugeot diesel of your type, should also be relevant to you. Also the spares such as oil filters etc are also very similarly numbered and exchangeable.

Smile Re: Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Thanks Guys. I did know that the engines are the same as they were developed by PSA.

So far I found that the PSA company car diesel fleet in France is running on B50.

In Germany they only accept responsibility for B5 or B15.

I am planning to run B50 until the next service in May and if all is well change to B100.

The main issue that seems to crop up is failure of seals in the Bosch Pump. This pump is common to a number of cars and people in Germany have had experience with failure after 70,000 to 90,000 km on Biodiesel.

However there a people with the same cars that have done over 100,000 km without problems.

If you find something in this regard please keep me posted.

Thanks

Andreas

Re: Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Andreas, please if you have any info or sites containing info on the seals issue please let us know, or even what you've heard.

I do know that PSA builds the same engines for both vehicles so the issues are likely to be similar too! Hence my interest. I do keep an eye on my high pressure pump as its there that the problem should start. I heard third hand of a HDi motor leaking biodiesel onto its timing belt with the logical conclusion, destruction.

Re: Biodiesel in Citroen C5

Matt,

this is a German Site that uses Google to translate (a bid dodgy) but may be usefull.

http://www.iwr.de/biodiesel/auto.html

These are some other sites that may be usefull.

http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_vehicle.html

http://www.arfuels.com.au/ausrf/file...0Sheet%205.pdf

http://www.planetdiesel.com/use.htm

The last link is interesting, Citroen says B5 only and Peugot says all is fine?

Maybe they are talking about an older engine.

Andreas
