Nooooo!!

I know what you might be thinking. She won't be fitted under the car in its place as she may get stolen too. They'll nick anything of value around here

sit her on the roof rack. At least she can spot a good parking spot at the local shops!

Re: Toyota wheel

I want to avoid using up internal space. I was looking at some kind of locking mechanism for the original setup.

One suggestion to me was (going from the inside of the vechicle)to put some sort of bolt that can be screwed down in the way of the access to the lowering mechanism. This would effectively interfere with the tool (the thief dirtbag has to lower the wheel from its undercar recess) getting to its connection point where it does its job. When I need to access it I up screw the bolt allowing my lowering tool to get where it needs to go.

If this has already been invented someone tell me where I can buy one!

Re: Toyota wheel

If there is a hole in the bumper or rear bodywork which is used to access the winch, can you source a lockable cover for this access point?

Tony

Re: Toyota wheel

I thought the same as there is that cover but the bumper is also plastic so any lockable cover would probably be easily prised off with a screw driver.

Re: Toyota wheel

you could try adapting the steel plate and studs that support the wheel so that the wheel locks to the winch chain. Maybe incorporating one of those locking wheel nuts that people use to secure their spare wheel? I am sure there is a simple way to do it.

Re: Toyota wheel

You could put a long chain and padlock on it, looped over the spare wheel carrier and padlocked to the wheel.
Alternatly you could put the spare on a carrier on the back (a pain in the @$$ when loading the back) to bring the padlock to a comfortable height. Of course that would free up lots of room for a 180L fuel tank......

Or some kind of electric fence setup, switched off from within the car. I had considered one of these for the bonnet star on the merc, preferably connected to a camera to get a photo of the offender, somwhere between him saying faa and arrk. I can imagine seeing these on mercpartsonline.com as "Bonnet star- normal $49.95, 5 in stock, Bonnet star - theif electrocuting - $1350.00 Sold out".

Re: Toyota wheel

Captain and Dave you have both given me food for thought. I'm sorry Dave but the consequences of stains on the duco would be unappealing. The elctric thingi I like, the electric star, well where do I buy one and how much did you say $1350. Sound sreasonable for the pleasure it would bring

A padlock under the car would risk mud etc fowling the lock.

That's one option when they fit a fuel tank (or LPG) to a LC100. The other is an external carrier. Wheel can be locked to the external carrier.
Trouble with the internal carrier is it interferes with the rear child seats which Peter uses as he has a large family.
However this is probably just academic now as I think Peter is looking to replace the LC with a Patrol.

Re: Toyota wheel

Just bought a padlock that has a seal over the key hole and a housing to protect it from weather. Bought from local locksmith. I'll use a chain to lock it up. Thanks for suggestions people.
