Is It a Coincidence?
About 2 weeks ago I connected to the NBN.
It was extremely painless. The only way I knew that the swap had been affected was that on the appointed day, my download speed went from around 12mb to around 20mb around 1PM. And my phone stopped working- until I plugged it into the modem.
I have carefully monitored the download speed every day since then and find that from around 9PM to 4PM the following day the download speed is typically between 18mb and 21mb- very good for what I do.
HOWEVER, from around 4pm to 9pm every evening it drops to between 2mb to 4mb-Even on Sundays! That is not very good.
My service provider is Telstra.
I have had two Foxtel boxes in my home for a number of years and I am sick to death of all the ads. 7 minutes of program and 4 minutes of ads- I have had it with Foxtel. I can no longer stand it, I am getting rid of Foxtel!!!
Now that I am on the NBN I have been looking at streaming Netflix and Stan and Youtube Red.
Yesterday I went on to the Telstra Chat site to see how much longer my 50gb contract had to go. I said that my needs had changed and I have always been very happy with Telstra but was concerned in the huge slowdown between 4pm and 9pm every night even on Sundays!- and was not sure this would work for streaming
Today Telstra called and offered to swap me to their “Best Bundle Ever” 1000gb+ a free Telstra TV. I had a bit of a discussion with the lady and told her how concerned I was with the huge slowdown every day between 4pm and 9pm including Sundays.
Anyway, I hate Foxtel so much I went ahead and signed up for the new deal and will hope for the best. Apparently 3mb down is probably sufficient to stream one TV.
So here is the kicker.
As I do every night, I have been checking the download speed all evening and it is consistently measuring between 19mb and 20.5 mb.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EVENING SLOWDOWN ? ? ?
Is the fact that my internet is not showing a huge slowdown in the evening for the first time ever since connecting to the NBN this evening just a coincidence, or did my discussion with the Telstra reps actually make a difference ?
Will the slowdown reappear after the cooling off period is over?
