    Re: Red gunk in filter

Try methanol or turps on the red gunk and see if it has the same effect that it did removing my "tarry substance" coming from biodiesel

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

Here's a good read on 'algae' in diesel as it relates to boats. Sounds like algae is actually bacteria....I had wondered how algae would photosynthesise inside a dark fuel tank....

    I see some...

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

A bio friend experimented on his ute with 100% methanol yesterday (I assume he still on the road today!?).

"It is clear that the non-return valve on Facet pumps are a choke point for crud .

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

Maybe it is algae then? I have a sample and just need a microscope to have a look. I have a mate that studies Antarctic moss for a living - maybe I'll send it to him.

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

Smithy - that article is interesting, but a lot to digest. I will work on that.

Tony - what are the risks of going for a very concentrated solution of either methanol or turps to clean your pump?...

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

    Evening all,

I've been experimenting on the 'tarry stuff' (TS). I had to decant my latest batch into cubies tonight and had several that were just too contaminated with TS to fill, so I tried some...

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

What's everyone's guess at what this is? From my sediment trap after about 3 years of no cleaning. I wash my fuel until it passed the shakemup test.

I have been adding Chemtech Diesel Power as a...
  8. Re: Methanol in Sydney - am i the only one making BIO in Sydney ?

Whitey is the only one I know and is where mine comes from.

Surely there are other options though.

    maybe these guys?

Re: Alternative IP pump priming methods

    No easy options eh?

I actually tightened up the hose barbs on my fake Facet and it is working now, so I might have jumped the gun a bit. The last one went for 2 years before it karked it, so may...

Re: Alternative IP pump priming methods

Has anyone seen a CAV filter with plunger-type hand primer (similar to Qwarla's) for sale anywhere locally?

Re: CAV / DELPHI filter installation

That paint thing is pretty annoying eh? Have you ever come across another brand of filter that isn't painted? I assume the filters aren't the same on both ends, so flipping the filter upside down...

Re: Alternative IP pump priming methods

Qwarla - that link you posted looks like a good one - robust. The primer seems similar to the one mounted on the side of the IP of my Merc, which seem to be very reliable. As you say, the most common...

Re: Alternative IP pump priming methods

Thanks, Cade. Any chance you could provide a link to the CAV filter you use?
Does it have a hand primer?
Have you tested it to see if it still works lately?

I understand you have no need as...

Re: Alternative IP pump priming methods

Thanks, Qwarla. I usually don't have to prime after a filter change either if I add fuel to the new filter before screwing it on. But anytime I muck around with the hoses - which is way too often at...

    Alternative IP pump priming methods

Use of biodiesel has caused my factory priming system that is built into my water/sediment trap to be rendered non-functional.

In my case, the non-return valves gummed up, so I had to remove one...

    Re: 1hz injector pump rebuild

Sorry - completely overlooked the air in return line issue in my response above.

If if you remove the Facet pump from the equation and run the engine do you still get air in the return line?

    Re: Engine fuelling issues

Well I'm back from my 2,000 km round trip and the ute didn't miss a beat....TFFT.

I feel that the problem was most likely the failure of the old Facet pump. Even though it was only ever used for...

Farmerpete - I agree with the other comments here, for what it is worth:

    Re: Mazda B2500 Low power

Does sound that way. As you say, JJ, even if it was sitting open just a fraction there would no boost at all made by the turbo - all the exhaust gases would be bypassing the impeller.

    Re: Engine fuelling issues

The ute seems to be running well now after about 60 or so km yesterday.

I replaced the filter just in case, Tony. And I'll try running 5% ULP for a bit - at least for my trip next week.
