    Re: Ssangyong Musso

    Hi all,

Not wanting to derail / hijack the thread here but I've often wondered whether the 5-cylinder OM602 (?) from the Musso would easily adapt to the the Mercedes W123 chassis as a replacement...
  2. Sydney - SVO for modern common-rail diesel engines Friday 25 May 2018

    Hi all,

I think Tony might have posted something on this earlier, but I can't find his post.

Alexander Noack is visiting Sydney again on 25th May for the afternoon and evening. If anyone is...

Re: Anyone have experience with this pump?

That looks good - I will add it to my eBay watch list for when my existing 600W water tank pump finally dies. It has been going strong for 5 years now, but seems to struggle a bit on colder days when...

    Re: Outstanding pre-filter performance

That particular filter has been on the car for 5 months. I doubt the car has travelled more than 1000km in that time.

I change the main filter once a year and carry a spare of each just in case.

    Outstanding pre-filter performance

I knew I had some crud in the tank of my Mercedes and based on this it might be time to pull the tank and clean it.

Sounds awesome. I think I read about these somewhere....built in India with an Italian diesel engine? Electric start?

    Any photos?

Sticky: Re: What I saw on ebay

Crikey...the payback period on that baby would be lengthy:

If dino diesel is $1.50/L and you can make bio for $0.35/L the net benefit is $1.15/L
That means you'd need to make 30,696 L to cover...

    Re: Generator question

Start-up current can be as bad as 10 x run current as others have pointed out. This is related to Power Factor or the ratio of Real Power (kW) to Apparent Power (kVA). If a motor is running very...

Does anyone know if either of these engines was ever used in large quantities in Australia? The internet tells me they were widely used int he US in Dodge pickups, but also a wide range of other...

    Re: Generator question

What is the total electrical load you are putting on the generator? Baseload is 10A or 2.4 kW and you have 6.6kW capacity. Is the additional load of the pumps etc more than 17.5 A / 4.2 kW?

Re: Bio Sludge in fuel tank

    Evening all,

I just cleaned out my sediment / water trap from my Rodeo again almost exactly 12 months since I did it last time:

Re: how to clean dirty oil containers

You can also try a splash of methanol if you have some. I've used that to clean the 'tarry substance' off the bottom of my cubies. It is the only thing that consistently works for me without...

Re: 1HD-FTE and bio performance fix

It is amazing how a simple difference in filter brand could make that much difference. I might try one of the Fleetguards on mine next time.

    Re: Incomplete reaction advice

Glad you are on the mend, Smithy.

I'm finally getting to the end of re-processing this batch and it has been a good lesson learned: just don't attempt a reaction without all of the appropriate...

    Re: Incomplete reaction advice

    Hi Smithy,

I don't own a reasonable graduated flask, but perhaps I should invest to get this calculation correct.

In the past, I have just done a rough 3/27 using an old syringe and have only...

    Re: Incomplete reaction advice

So I heated the batch up to 55C again and added 7L of methanol + a similar amount of left over glycerol, mixed for 3.5 hrs and now have a good visible separation.

Still didn't pass the 3/27 test,...

    Incomplete reaction advice

In making recent batches of bio I have tried to do the reaction and let the product sit as long as possible before washing. I've found this to be beneficial in that more byproduct drops out with time...
  19. Glycerol / glycerine / biodiesel byproduct as rust inhibitor?

I'll try to conduct some sort of test in parallel with this, but what are everyone's thoughts on using bio byproduct instead of fish oil to slow rust down?

My Merc has some insidious rust...

Re: Adventurers in common rail repair

I have 2 fuel filters for your car you can have for free if you are happy to pay the postage. I got them when I bought a 306 HDi with the aim of biodieseling it. Plans changed (bought...
  21. Re: Aftermarket fuel filter & sediment / water trap assemblies

  22. Re: Aftermarket fuel filter & sediment / water trap assemblies

Well my rebuild work has stood up to an on-vehicle test. It is leak-free and the primer works, so I'm happy. Not sure how I'm going to mount it though.

  23. Re: Aftermarket fuel filter & sediment / water trap assemblies

I think it is possible as the non-return part is inside the filter body. I could check the thread size and pitch.

That supplier also sells new piston assemblies for this type of filter head.
  24. Aftermarket fuel filter & sediment / water trap assemblies

I've had various issues with my Isuzu OEM sediment / water trap getting gummed up with yet identified 'tarry substance' which I have posted about previously. It got so gummed that I had to pull it...
