Re: Heating the house with bio

Yes, burns a fair bit of WVO - with about 10% misfuel (petrol drained from a diesel tank) to help reignition.
We used about 800L this year and we were toasty warm.
We never leave burning when we...

Re: Heating the house with bio

here is a link to my veggie oil powered home heating system. In the trial of the burner, I used a 'pot belly' stove. The later video was in our home. The stove was installed when the house was built....

Re: Heating the house with bio

The Demon heater is unflued and should not be used in a non-ventilated space. In WA they are no longer allowed to be used in workshops due to the emissions causing health issues.

    Re: The Imsides method

Obviously, swamping does not mean that 15g/L of KOH will "swamp" an oil titrating at 18 (KOH) g/L.
    Perhaps he meant 150g KOH??
I am sure that would "swamp" oil titrating at 18(KOH) easily.

I have moved this thread to the "Classifieds " sub-forum, where it belongs.
  8. Re: My Ambient/ Room temperature Biodiesel Production

Tilly, Thanks for the weather report ;) That temperature is much closer to what people consider "Room Temperature"
Will you be performing any tests on the biodiesel?

I am out of the 32" long bags at the moment.

    Re: WVO Upflow Design ok?

The issue I see with your system is that your filter will need to be changed at some time. How are you going to access them inside a 200L HDPE drum?
Having the drums "open topped" is a problem as it...

    Re: washing with heat

    Cade,
    Keep up the good work.
Once you have this one completed, perhaps you could do a test on the already settled and filtered biodiesel, for comparison.

This is my up-flow settling system. The 3 drums are steel 200L drums. All in-tank piping is polythene. Inter-tank piping is food grade vinyl tubing with hose clamps. The oil is pumped to the...

    Re: washing with heat

I look forward to your test results. It may take some time for the byproduct to drop out after the methanol has gone. I would like to see how much has dropped out in 12 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours...
  14. Re: How do I plumb in a heat exchanger?

    Mark,
Franz is your fixation, it is not a "necessary part" of your conversion. It is the CAUSE of most of your problems.
I am fed up with your stubborn adherence to YOUR Mantra of having a Franz...
  15. Re: How do I plumb in a heat exchanger?

Your Franz is sucking all of the heat from your fuel, before it gets to the CAV.
As stated before, (on another thread I think) install a small prefilter like this
    2266

    before the heat exchanger....
  16. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

Brass reducing tees are available in a number of sizes. Yes, tee off from the heater circuit. Check the fuel temperature from a cold start, it should rise in accordance with the coolant temperature....
  17. Re: My Ambient/ Room temperature Biodiesel Production

Tilly, Can you please try the reaction with oil that has not warmed up to 40+C? How about waiting until you get home before adding the oil to your reactor (oil that has been stored out of the sun)....
  18. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

Mark, Different oils have different viscosity curves and melting points, so check for your specific oil, not just "one vege oil"

    Re: Waste Glycerine in WA

    David,
I am sorry, he does not take NaOH catalysed byproduct, only KOH catalysed byproduct (used as stock feed supplement)

  20. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

Helton sent me a dual coil biofuel one for testing after I approached them offering to test one on my 300D with a 4 channel recording thermometer.
I recorded coolant in / out and fuel in/out...
  21. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

I am sure that 83Patrol was referring to a flat plate heat exchanger. They are designed with heat transfer efficiency in mind, unlike the "shower units" like the Helton and other similar units.

Members of WARFA have someone who collects the drums from one member's home. We have our meeting this afternoon and I will ask for his contact details.
  24. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

If your Helton heated oil is losing sufficient heat to cause fuel flow restriction issues after passing thru just 70cm of hose, then you need a better heat exchanger! Perhaps you might add some...
  25. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump
