  1. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

Several years ago, I compared flat plate heat exchangers with the Helton dual coil heat exchangers and found them to be much less efficient. I posted results on the forum but with photobucket now in...
  2. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

They are available on ebay. search for 'plate heat exchanger'
This one is cheap and looks to be big enough for your purposes. It has 1/2" hose barb connections so you will need to adapt to the size...
  3. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

No one who understands anything about automotive cooling systems would plumb the fuel heater to the radiator!
The heater circuit is where the water is hottest and hot soonest. The cabin heater is in...
  4. Re: Pre Heating WVO before injector pump

Why do you feel that the oil is not hot enough? Have you tested 90 oil going to the IP?
There are a variety of 12v fuel heaters available, from ones which wrap around the fuel filter to ones using...
  5. Sticky: Re: Veggie use in heavy haulage vehicles

My apologies, I inadvertently created a "Typo".
    It should have been "CRD"
I have edited my post to correct my Typo.

  6. Sticky: Veggie use in heavy haulage vehicles

I was asked about using veggie oil in heavy haulage vehicles.
    What follows is my response.
Please feel free to critique it.

I have no experience with cooking oil use in heavy haulage vehicles....

    Re: Winterizing Biodiesel

You will need to experiment with blends and your freezer to determine the blend that works best for the anticipated minimum temperatures.
Make up blends of 5%, 10%, 25% and see what happens when thy...

    Re: Winterizing Biodiesel

I spray wash, using 3 washes of 20L for a 100L batch (I have plenty of water in our 130KL rainwater tank), draining the water after each wash, after the first wash I pump the water / bio with a...

    Re: Winterizing Biodiesel

Can you chill your biodiesel down to the lowest overnight temperatures you will get in Canberra? If so, chill it down slowly and if there is any liquid biodiesel left when at the lowest temp, then...

    Re: FFA good or bad?

I do not test the Titration of oil I use in my car.
I have tested the titration of oil I used for making biodiesel at 4g/L. This oil came from the same supplier as the oil I use in my car, so is...
  11. Re: Car veggie oil art / advertising

    John,
Some people tend to hide the fact that their vehicle is veggie powered. Others get personalised number plates like mine "FATMOBILE" or a friend's "A2B 4FREE".
The WARFA has a bumper sticker...
  12. Re: tmrw 14th free talk- Waste based biofuels in modern engines: Speaker from Germany

How did the talk go? Alexander comes to Australia every year and WARFA host him overnight and get updates from him over lunch, or at a public event like what you had there.Turnout?
    What was the...
  13. Re: DIY swapping altitude compensator for boost compensator Bosch VE

    Cade,
Atmospheric pressure is ~14psi, so 7psi boost can give you up to a 50% power increase (theoretically) with inter-cooling, etc
    So a 100Hp engine would become a 150Hp engine.
    Many other things...
  14. Re: Glycerol / glycerine / byproduct pre wash

Easily done using a timer and mains contactor to suit the current rating of the element.
Set the start time, set the stop time, turn on the power to the timer. Come back after the oil is heated up. ...
  15. Re: Making biodiesel while maximising PV usage

Solar diverter is a good option. Again, the DC working voltage of the array will be a factor. My example was for a 6 panel system with a Vmp of 30V per panel, making 180VDC.
    Solar arrays of up to...

  17. Re: Making biodiesel while maximising PV usage

    3DB
With my diagram you don't need another DC breaker, although it would provide greater isolation from the Solar panels.
  18. Re: Glycerol / glycerine / byproduct pre wash

Compressors are not cheap to run- it is the compressor that makes refrigerators so expensive to operate.[/QUOTE]

I agree, it is much cheaper to run a small pump or stirrer than to run a...
  19. Re: Making biodiesel while maximising PV usage

If you plan to use a contactor (relay) to switch the DC, then use multiple contacts in series as this significantly reduces arcing at the contacts. eg use a 4 pole changeover contactor with 2 poles...
  20. Re: Making biodiesel while maximising PV usage

    3DB,
You could operate the heating element on DC direct from the solar panels. The downside of this is that you will need to have an electrician make the connections (you can run the cable though)....
  21. Re: DIY swapping altitude compensator for boost compensator Bosch VE

Isn't an altitude compensator the same thing as a boost compensator?
They do the same thing. Surely, at most, you may need to adjust the max fuel at full boost.
  22. Re: Converting a 'new' vehicle to use vegetable oil

Turbos supply air - nothing to do with the fuel system.
Therefore no problems with WVO and Turbocharged engines (due to the turbo at least)

It was in a number of vehicles, including Toyotas. Best to check out posts for the past 2 months to find it.

  24. Re: Cleaning my dishwasher with KOH?

Have you tried an empty wash using the your usual dishwasher detergent?
This should remove all of the crud from the dishwasher. If not, that is your problem, change to a better dishwasher detergent.

See if you can get hold of a 'Solar Edwards', solar hot water system tank. They are made of Stainless Steel and have an electric element in one end.
I have one which I made into a biodiesel...
