Re: Petrol is just going to cost a lot. I don't get the uproar.

Bill, A capitalist/socialist eh! I think I know what you mean, nice concept but impractical in the complex society we now live . The changes are irreversible. You can't turn back the economic model, but we should be more vigilant than ever about civil liberties!

I appreciate your reticence about trusting big corporations! but my experience of suing(or acting for) corporations is very varied. For every well managed ethical corporation execution there are 10 bastards! Even the best Corporation often become run by the worst kind of bureaucracies! No big Hitlers, but much worse, thousands of little ones!

I agree that most self-built automotive engineering projects pass quite strict registration tests in Australia. I have, and love, a 1966 Coomes special Mark 11 Jaguar. Over the years this car has been completely rebuilt and modified. Yes, its a very attractive and romantic project, but if I was in an accident, I would rather have the modern safety protection of the XF!

I agree the history of electric cars is fascinating. In Germany before the war most city buses were electric. (incidentally were you born in Germany? Ich bien ein switzer est!) But today's consumer market must be re-educated. Think about the problems inherent in business you successfully ran. Think about the hundreds of problems that were solved for you by the manufacturer of trucks you operated and still you must have been beset by a myriad of problems 9 and getting worse every year). When I said there are insurmountable problems for the backyarder, I meant it . If the Wright Brother's were alive today, they would never have got of the ground for all the red tape!

My concerns are not just for the consumer, but for the nightmare in which a small inventor may become entangled through excessive idealism or inexperience.

But cheer up Bill, you haven't long to wait for a roadworthy electric car from the Major Manufactures. (oh, and incidentally did you know that AMP was the only insurance company in the world to honor serviceman's' life insurance policies?)

Alga, what do you say to an old fashioned Marxist, conspiracy theorist? (especially one who utilizes a major corporation as a logo!)

What I can deduce from your gratuitous rantings, is you seem to believe that all the Ill's of the world are due to the greed of evil corporations and fool's (basically, anyone who disagrees with you!)

Alga, you are not the only person who knew and admired the late Ted Pritchard. I found Ted a passionate, engaging, fascinatingly quixotic engineer. But that doesn't mean I thought his project of any practical value. Just think of the lack of logic this example, If Ted had been successful and the Pritchard steam car had become a hugely mass-manufactured product, .. he would automatically have developed into the exact evil corporation you say you detest! In fact I suspect that like most envious people, you really just detest others success.

Hey, but maybe I'm wrong!! Well, here's a simple test! If you are as you boast, such a creatively inventive genius, that has every right to dismiss my view's with the lofty comment [[QUOTE]You really don't seem to have any experience in the real world of creative invention. My own personal experience with alternative transport energy makes all you're statements look insipid.[UNQUOTE] Thenjust enlighten us with the details of any realistic, practical, or even marketable invention of your own. No, too hard ?? Big corporate conspirators making sure you have no development funds? No Problem! OK, lets try this proposal, if you can show me any realistic, project that you have properly thought out, I"ll provide you with adequate funding !! No answer, yeah right, it's different when it's not just hot air, isn't it eh?.

As for your other evidence, be reasonable, what would you think if someone advanced as evidence the proposition that some time ago they met some bloke with a miracle product but he mysteriously died and took his secret to the grave, (or hiding out with Elvis)?

Your other examples share the same news credibility as UFOS in rural in Qld. (same page).

The long struggle to raise the issues of public acceptance and awareness for alternate fuels is not assisted by wild doomsday conspiracy theories.

I applaud your use of Bio-diesel for maritime use. Great news ! This is a very important, and achievable product, essential to protect the marine environment and general health of the planet. I am not sure that many people would be interested the details of solving oil substitution in large-scale shipping needs, but if you are, I am always happy to bore people to death with the progress of our development!!

Alga, remember it's great to be a idealistic tinkerer, and create your own hobby projects. Great fun, but you must be realistic, people can, brew their own beer, knit their own yogurt, grow there own dop.. well you get the idea. But when you want to mass market such products you must possess market education skills, industrial, economic, legal and a myriad of other skills you obviously don't possess. So don't be so scornful of those who do, or you are in danger of becoming a fanatical bigot.

    Cheers!

Re: Petrol is just going to cost a lot. I don't get the uproar.

        G'day Xavier,

First I don't have a clue about the quote you stick my name on:
[quote]You really don't seem to have any experience in the real world of creative invention. My own personal experience with alternative transport energy makes all you're statements look insipid.[UNQUOTE]
As I have never made those statements!

        Next:
Ich bin kine Deutcher aber Ich ver in Deutchland vonen...and as I have not used German for well over forty years, nor is it my native tongue, there's every chance that the spelling is incorrect!
I also lived and travelled throughout Afghanistan and Pakistan with my Patan friends but that dose not make me an Afghan or a Muslim.

Next: Sure I blame just about all the worlds woes on people/big companies "wanting" much more than they would ever use or need! Same goes for governments from various countries and...I don't for a moment believe our own government have clean hands when it comes to divying-up other nations wealth and resources!
I guess the hippy in me is alive and well after all these years as both my wife, whom I now spend all my time caring for, and I are happy with what we have. We don't have millions of dollars but then again, we don't "need" millions of dollars. We can afford what we want when we want it...That's what's important to me.

Next: I have never claimed to be a creatively inventive genius! I believe I am now too old to start dabbling in creativity...and although I admire useful creative items created by others, I've never been the creative type!
I am and have always been more the hunter gatherer type.

Next: I believe myself to be extreamly lucky "not" to be envious in the slightest of anyone! Over the years I have travelled the world as a free agent, going where I please when I please and was paid handsomly to do so! I consider myself lucky to have had such a wide variety of friends in my life, from members of royality and other powerful people from many countries, (that included some powerful business people) to mercenaries, police officers and rickshaw drivers! They were all my friends!
Having had over eleven years military and weaponry training, I have always had my emotions well under control and as I stated, envy, jealousy and/or greed are not emotions I ever suffered from!

In my eyes, envy and jealousy are other emotions...Besides greed...That causes big problems for people suffering from them! I thank god I've never been one of those people!

Next: I have never claimed to use Bio-diesel for maritime use...I only purchase BioDiesel...when I can find it...when travelling up north on fishing trips! But with a saving of 1 cent per litre in some stations...it dosen't make much difference cost wise if I use PetroDiesel or BioDiesel! I gave-up my plans on brewing my own BioDiesel simply because big business Bio' brewers buy-up all the waste vegie oil from restaurants and fish and chip shops cutting out the little bod in the process!

Last: If you had an inkling of the life I have led or if you knew me even a little, you would know I am far from being an idealist! And as for, Quote:
you must possess market education skills, industrial, economic, legal and a myriad of other skills you obviously don't possess.
        End Quote:
I've been selling and marketing myself all around the world for well over forty-five, 45, years and in that time I know I have been very successful!
Had I not been, I would not be here today to swap rants with anyone!

And now as it's 2.40am I'll say goodnight and go get some sleep.

        Cheers,

        Bill

Re: Petrol is just going to cost a lot. I don't get the uproar.

To the thinking people, sorry about this long post, it will be the last.

Xavier, thank you for proving my point. I have never said I was an inventor and your other comments about me show where you are coming from and where your allegiances lie, plus the depth of your lack of knowledge.

It's very hard to reply to the preceding quote, which makes so many pathetic accusations, even accusations of growing drugs. I'm a Marxist now am I, normally I hear that from the followers of the mythical god of war the primitive thinking Abrahamic cults follow, as they babble incoherently trying to make sense of insanity.

Your accusations are pretty funny and ill conceived, I'm semi retired, spent more than 35 successful hands on years in hospitality, entertainment, tourism promotions and development. Ten of those as a contractor, in receiver/change over management. I'd say I've written more successful business and restructuring plans, organised promoted and managed large entertainment events, than you've ever been to. During that time, I've picked up qualification in accountancy, building design and construction, commercial law, local government, business management.

You seem to think those who can see the reality of the world as inferior, uneducated, useless and know nothing, when all can see the glaring world truth of the elitists. My company worked with some of the biggest entertainment and accountancy firms in the country over the years on major events and tours. At one time we managed a company which provided catering for government departments in the ACT, which certainly gave me the opportunity to observe close hand the huge amount of corporate and religious control used to manipulate and control our governments.

But then I'm just ignorant, uneducated and skill less, so what am I to do with our small engineering workshop and joinery, the development of our micro brewery/distillery/winery, our alternative energy and fuel projects, now I know its only people like you who have these skills. We do these thing for our local communities benefit, not for control or to make lots of money, our interests lie in practical survival for those around us, not the world. Saving the world is hopeless, it's better to personally prepare and then just watch as the idiots of the world continue to live in denial and go down with their toilet paper economic ship.

Unless this world society gets away from the current economic approach, the majority of society is doomed. We need alternatives, innovation and community co-operation. The corporate controlled political and bureaucratic world of elitism, gives us the opposite, as we are witnessing around the world. Like all ideological beliefs and ways of approaching life, economic rationalism and constant growth ways of thinking, is passed it's use by date. It's negative, ecologically evil and destructive. I couldn't care less about the world society and knockers of innovation, my life experiences shows the opposite, it's small innovators which drive positive progress. Major corporations do exactly the opposite. True progress requires innovation, caring and co-operation, something academics, bureaucrats and corporate slaves just don't understand. To them, it's all “me”, control, money and power.

Xavier you have no idea of the real world, nor the huge amount of experiences self made people have in their lives compared to boring educated programmed clones. The world is the witness to the reality of what the programmed corporate conglomerate approach is doing and I doubt there are any real caring people who would disagree.

I don't know about you, but I sit here with no power bills and no fuel bills, food bills less than $160 a month and in the lap of innovative technological luxury. Sadly the Internet, phone and TV satellite setup on our home and boat, a small electronics business devised, costing a fraction of what the corporate world demanded, doesn't work, as you can tell.

Your right innovation doesn't work, so enjoy driving your profit driven mobile coffin. The reason why they now make cars which collapse and crush you, is because they make more money by replacing a car rather than fixing it. Major corporations don't want anyone outside them to make money, so they cut out the repairer as much as they can, reducing the need to maintain a large stock of parts. Why else do modern cars fold like concertinas instead of protecting the occupants. Just follow the money trial through the system and you will see, it all gets back to the same companies in the end.

                G'day Nick,

Good to hear you were entertained by our shenanigans but I'm sorry to say that you Nick, may never have the chance to visit, live with and experience the lives of the people of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and the old Greater Yugoslavia, simply because the old Greater Yugoslavia no longer exists, it has been chopped-up into several small countries and most of them hate each other.
You can still visit most, if not all of the new/old countries of the old Yugoslavia, but it's not the same as it was back in the early 60s but I'm sure you would find decent honest people in each of those smaller countries.

As for Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan...Well, I'm sure you watch TV so I don't have to explain about those countries. Some of my Iranian, Iraqi and Afghan friends here in Australia tell me just how dangerous Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan have become...even for them!

I lived in those countries when it was safer to get around in those countries than it was in most big cities of the UK, Europe or the USA!
That was before greedy power hungry baskets got a foothold in those countries and began preaching hatred for everyone who did not agree with them and their cause...which was to put themselves and their cronies into power where they could control all the people!

Anyway Nick, I hope you do get the chance to visit anywhere you fancy! You will find that most of we humans are the same, most of us are happy to share, we want a decent life for ourselves and our families and we want piece and prosperity to raise our families.

Now it's time to go make a cupa for the wife.

                Cheers,

to some degree it seems simple to me. [hey dont call me simple] but it is
supply and demand. at the moment i find myself driving into town[rural] at least every second day. Now is that essential of coarse not but i like to do it because its affordable, so i will continue to do it.
perhaps we have had it too good for too long and just expect..........
sometimes i think, dont try and fight it,,,,, just accept,,,,,if it gets to the piont i have to walk into town every now and then,,, will the flowers smell just as sweat,, i hope so

I travelled in the car from Caulfield in Melbourne, to lakes entrance and back at 80-90 miles an hour and it used just over a pint of kerosene.
WOW!! 610km on less than a litre of kerosene. That's over 1723mpg!!! And you were doing 80- 90 mph all the way too.

I am not trying to start an argument.
I am a bit interested in Alga's history.
As I recall, when Alga first joined the forum yon knew straight away that he did not know the first thing about using SVO as a motor fuel. You fellows were constantly telling him how to go about setting up his SVO system and all of his trials and tribulations with attempting to use SVO blends in the Tassie winter towing his cars up and down the drive to get them started.
And then at some point in time he remembered he had actually been using SVO for the last 4 decades.
I was just trying to find out when Alga remembered that he had been using SVO for the last 4 decades when I ran across this thread.

610km on less than a litre of kerosene in a steam powered 63 falcon is certainly impressive.
                        I bought a brand new 63 falcon when I was a lad. 260ci V8, 4 on the floor for $2200 drive away.
That was the first year Ford had syncromesh on first gear.
I could squeal the tires in the first three gears.
It looked similar to the Pricthard falcon but didn't get such good gas mileage
I wish I still had it

That is very close to what I had, a black 2 door falcon sedan- a "sleeper"

Unfortunately mine would not even get close to 1000 mpg
