My twin tank conversion

Hi to all,

Finally, I have begun the twin tank conversion. I have mounted all components and installed the hoses, currently only the diesel side works, since the oil tank has not been completed yet. The car runs OK with all the new components (on diesel only of course) so I expect no problems when I add the oil. The tank will be heated by coolant, through a heating coil that the plumber will make for me and the filter is heated with 5/16 wrapped heater pipe.

Please see attached.

Regards
Muzza

Hi mdraicch,

wow, you have have gone the whole hog there.

Are you planning to use solid oils with the wvo tank heater?

In Echuca are you having any probs finding oil with the bio in moama?

I'm half a hour from you should catch up sometime to swap war stories.

God bless froggo.

Re: My twin tank conversion

Hey Froggo,

No problem getting oil here, I have a friendly tuck shop who will give me all I want, good people. I could also buy it for 50 cents a litre, but only if I get desperate. Funny I have never bought any bio here, even though they make it quite close.

I know that a heater is strictly not necessary here in Echuca, but winter has been really cold, and I really don't want to put any more strain on the lift pump than necessary, so I will heat it up. No solid oils for me, but the heat is an insurance policy. I figure that if the oil part works well I will turn the small tank in the engine bay (about 15 litres) into a swirl tank, with some luck I will be able to add another tank under the car plus a pump to fill the swirl tank as required, since I have a fuel gauge on the tank I will probably control it manually.

I would be pleased to talk with you, if you are a church goer we could meet at the church of christ in sturt street some sunday.

Best regards
Muzza

Hi mdraicch,

the bio plant does it sell to the public, not that I buy much fuel now?

I read about the upgrades and the shire was going to use bio but have not heard anything else.

It sure has been cold and it does thicken the wvo. I cold filter my oil and test batches in the fridge.

In my fuel tank some fats dropped out with the sub zero temps awhile back but now it's starting to warm up again it should melt soon.

I go to our local community church so sounds like a plan. I'll let you know when I can make it.

God bless, froggo

Hi froggo,

Yes testing oil in the fridge sounds like a great idea, but even though it would be sealed I don't think my wife would like it.

See you when you can make it.

Would she object to a bottle of extra virgin olive oil in the fridge?
Get an empty bottle and fill it with your cold filtered WVO and put it in the fridge - but make sure she doesn't put it on the salad.

Re: My twin tank conversion

You know women have a very different sense of humor, she didn't find these comments funny at all.

Even so, one has to wonder what a salad would taste like with oil from a thousand fried dim sims?

Sorry froggo I forgot to say that I don't know if the refinery sells BIO-D to us plebs, but I will try to find out.

Re: My twin tank conversion

Thanks Omar. Your valves (apart from the black electrical connector) also look good. I will post the remaining details of the conversion when I complete it, as for now the tank is at the plumbers being fitted with the heating coil.
