200 yr old guns!!

collective.

some 20 yrs ago i had the misfortune of having in my posession a very OLD gun that was used in some foreign land for obvious reasons, TO KILL people.
it seems that some of the BAD JUJU, from this gun may have rubbed off and has plagued me since. DAVE you have seen and know of said gun.

So, what is the point of this?

This last weekend, i head off to my ususal hunting ground to rid the bush of some FERAL pest's some 300 kay from home. left at around 330 am, hit the M7 and off we go. truck is going great guns, fully loaded with camping crap, we still manange a respectful, 125kays and then some if given the right moment. M4 same, the bottom of the Blue mntn's, we still manage to reach the top, not dropping below 75kay in third.

open road and we are FLYIN' rocket up the bum and no signs of any issues, given that i still have 2 broken GP's stuck in the head. reach Hill End and out of a 95ltr tank of oil i have used about 1 third, better than i expected.
saturday morning see's me bag out 4 feral goats, 1 fox and spooked some other kritters.
beers all round for a good day, sleep over.

Sunday, leave around, 8'ish heading home. things are going somewhat off tune, i have no idea why, so, i think, veg filter, changed, still the same, not quite right. so flick back to deso, a little better, but not as i expected, so? Air filter, YEP, took it out, major improvement. reached Bathurst Supacheap, new air filter, off we go again.

Just out of Bathurst and we find that something is starting to become VERY noticable in the LACK of power. OH NO, thoughts run thru my head, IP, Injectors, Filters, GOD WHAT ELSE?

we still manage to get home, but top speed 90kays, Victoria Pass, less than 50kay, WHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY have i been so cursed. that DAMNED GUN!!!!!

Limp home, not telling SHE who must be listened tooo cos i dont want the ring of, that syte box truck, it's nothing but trouble, sell it, and so on....

as i went to the back of the truck to retrive dead meat, i notice signs of deso and oil smears over the back, AHha, a leak some where, YEP sure enough more signs of deso and oil underneath.
but from where?????

as it was not running i could not see anything out of the ordinary, no major tell tales, UNTILL, i started her up.

the back of the IP, is throwing deso out, litres of the stuff, well not that much, but it might as well have been.

No wonder, we have no power, most of the fuel is being sprayed all over the people behind me,.

Now, more thoughts of major reapirs, IP shyting itself, wifey going nuts.

SAY nothing and just go home. say nothing, park the truck and say nothing, yes Honey, great hunting trip, yes honey, truck went really well.

Monday Morning RING people who serviced the IP and give them what for. they insist, as per usual, I HAVE DONE SOMETING WRONG.. cos the pump was quite allright and working well when it left our shop... YOU must have done something......SOOOOO after some heated conversation, they tell me, to look at the head of the pump, look for a small 12mm nut, give this a tweak, as it has a copper washer and maybe, JUST maybe, this has become loose.

a conspiracy i say, they leave this little bugger loose for a reason, so that people with NO IDEA, come back and have it serviced again, or be charged for a service that is not required...

i cranked this little bugger up, no more leaks, and as it turns out, it is running better than before. CONSPIRACY i say.... the little leaks i had on the driveway, i put down to me tinkering, BUT, it was this little nut not being tight enuf.

the truth is out there, IP service people are out to get you!!!!!!!!

Re: 200 yr old guns!!

Soooo - umm - the gun. The gun is clearly to blame at the start of the story - where does it get to?

Is it to come into play again in the next chapter when we hear of crazed oily man waving it at said IP shop???

Re: 200 yr old guns!!

ah,it's great to see somebody else on this site using a renewable fuel to go out hunting.I use b100 for all of my hunting trips in a nissan navara, not sure exactly how many kms but over 10000 anyway. Its a great feeling driving out to call foxes in while using a fuel you have produced yourself.keep up the good work. The more that non shooting people understand we are just part of the community & not gun toting idiots the better off we will be.
cheers bush

Re: 200 yr old guns!!

Ah yes, hunting and veg go together well. Have just returned home to the farm to find the foxes are thick as fleas on a dogs back. So far, 5 x foxes and 2 x wild dogs (@ $100 bounty each) in 4 days. Unfortunately, my ute still surges at low revs on veg so is not suited to trolling around the paddocks. Still going strong driving along the highway however. This paradise has to end soon for the trip to visit inlaws and then it's back to work, but it's been fun while it's lasted.

Hobes, to get rid of this karma, after your next hunting trip, preferably one where you are covered in blood, take the rifle into your nearest police station and hand it in. As you walk in, start waving it around to attract some attention, and screaming about chinamen and bad karma. When you wake up from being tasered, you will probably have messed your pants, and Bubba might be standing over you. But you can be rest assured that the bad karma has now been transferred to the nice police man.

That way, your truck will run on veg forever with no problems.

While not a shooter myself, I do support the concept of using firearms for hunting. I reckon a single shot from a skilled marksman has got to be the most humane method of killing an animal, be it for food or pest control or ideally both. All the better if you can get out there and do it on vegefuel.
I consider myself a 'greenie' and I believe hunting for the above reasons to be a 'green' thing to do, as is using vegefuel.
As for using a 200 yr old gun - a statement on resource conservation!

Re: 200 yr old guns!!

for those who are curious.

Dave this is not the same one. i dont have a clue as to where the old one is now days.

i dont go round shooting ferals with a 200yr old gun, especially one of these, a jezail or camel gun, see below.

in the old days when they afgans ran out of bullets, the would make shot out of camel dung and shoot that at ya, if the shot didn't kill you straight out, the infection would.

best of all with these guns, you could toast bread at 20 mtrs

jeeze i love black powder....
