Not all vehicles can be listed, so we have developed a guide for those
people starting on this interesting journey of using WVO as fuel. You will
have to know three things about your engine - not your vehicle - but your
engine and then work through the matrix.
Does it have:
- Indirect or Direct Injection?
- Is the injection pump an inline or a Bosch VE rotary pump?
- Are the injectors Mechanical or Electronic?
This rating system is simply a guide to the relative ease of conversion for various types of engines and the particular issues you may have. For example, a newbie with a Level 5 engine has a much bigger learning curve and risk associated with conversion than with a Level 1 engine.
Level 1
Indirect Injection + Inline injection Pump + Mechanical injectors
Examples - Mercedes 5 cyl, older Toyota Hilux, 2H Landcruiser, older Nissan 4.2, Nissan SD22, SD33.
Level 2.
Indirect Injection + Rotary (Bosch VE) injection pump + Mechanical injectors
Examples: 1HZ Landcruiser, Hilux, Nissan 2.8 and 4.2
Level 3.
Direct Injection + Inline injection pump + Mechanical injectors
Examples: Toyota 12h-T
Level 4
Direct injection + Rotary (Bosch VE) injection pump + Mechanical injectors
Example: Toyota 1HDT, and Toyota 1HD-FTE with extra care.
Level 5
Direct Injection + Rotary (Bosch VE) Injection pump with electronic controls + electronic injectors
Example: Nissan 3l, all modern common rail engines.
** Conversions with electronic injectors carry a high degree of risk of significant problems. Considerable research and understanding of the fine detail of these MUST be undertaken and you MUST be technically competent. If you have success, please let us know.
Alexander Noack from Germany has developed kits for a range of common rail engines with electronic injectors. Check out the options available at his site http://www.anc.me/us/ This is a link to a report written on a talk by Alexander in Perth. http://www.biofuelsforum.com/threads...of-Greasenergy
Level 6
Engines such as those with Lucas Injection Pumps. Regarded as doomed to fail on straight SVO. Blends could be considered.
Although not assigned a rating, Duramax engines with HEIP Injectors may present further challenges. There has been little long term testing on these engines. Perhaps we can rate them at some time in the future.
