DIY biodiesel training courses in Melbourne

As Darren Leonadas mentioned in another thread, Paul Martin of Grown Fuel Biodiesel Consultancy intends to organise some workshops/training sessions in Melbourne.

For those of you who don't know Paul, he's been around the Australian Biodiesel scene longer than most of us and I'm sure he'd have a good thing or two to teach. (In fact, one of the ex-founding members of the BAA, but we'll not hold that against him)

He's also made a DIY biodiesel manual, which he's selling. I've not read it, but with Paul's credentials I'm sure would make it a useful reference if you are going to make biodiesel at home. He's got some info on both the training and the book here:

    http://www.grownfuel.com/diy/diy.htm

I'd be interested to know if anyone gets the book as to what they think of it and I'd also be very interested to hear about the training (I don't want to go out on a limb on my own recommending it, never having read it, or been to the clandestine Melbourne Biodiesel Club ). Please post here to tell us all. I'd like to see this Melbourne section of the forum becoming just as active, or even more active than the Sydney one.

Re: DIY biodiesel training courses in Melbourne

    Hi All.

Ok, So its been confirmed , we will be having a club reaction
meeting/training day on Saturday the 21st of January at 10 am for
    11am. 'till when we finish.
If you have any WVO bring it along. For credit.
If you have none and are not a member/regular be prepared to pay a
small fee, say ($25.00) . If you would like to slap something on the
barby bring that along also, No alcohol 'till after the work is done
    and the shed cleaned up.
If you are a new comer , a big part of the training is OH&S, and we
recommend you bring safety goggles, and good gloves. and wear sloppy
cloths. Anybody with the poor excuse of not getting their hands
dirty because of having nice cloths on, will be given a manky old
    pair of club overalls.
For details (where??) email me direct.
    Cheers DAZ.
    P.S.

After the 22nd of Jan. or so we will also have our own site. It will
    look alot like www.sydneybiodiesel.com
A Great bunch of guys I met at the BAA conference. (Cheers Robert!!)
    Ciao DAZ.

    UPDATE on reaction meet.
Poor ol' Steve has one of those Neighbours, You Know the Mrs Cravitz
types that insists she saw Steve riding a broom.
The idea of having a BBQ at the meet has been canned, so strike off
the last post, "Bring something to slap on the Barby."
Yeah we are still having a meet, just no meat. Same time, same day i.e.
    next Saturday.
Mrs Cravitz called the MFB to the last Barby Steve lit and they found
the Plant in the Garage, They have given a firm warning to Steve like
    only Firer’s can.
So We May need a new , more appropriate home for the club soon.

This brings up moreover the importance of attending the next general
meeting. It has been confirmed as Wednesday the 22nd of February at 7pm
for 7.30 start, at the CERES lecture/training room. I will post rough
agenda soon. Anybody wanting something on the agenda please post it up
    or email me direct.
    , Cheers DAZ.

    ROBERT,

hi. im new to this forum but have been researching biodiesel for about 10 months now. I have been studying paul martins manual / book and let me tell you it is the best one i have read so far. I have just completed building my biodiesel plant only yesterday so i will be looking to make my first batch soon. I will be producing biodiesel from 100% tullow. Only problem is, im still looking where to purchase methanol and KOH. Can you advise me as to where i can locate these products?

    In Melbourne try "Deltrex Chemicals".
In the eastern burbs of Melbourne there is Burwood transmissions, I think thats their name, who are a bunch of rev heads who race cars, Any auto workshop who has racecar enthusiasts will have Meth.
Or call CSR Altona and ask them for a list of distributors.
Remember if they ask questions, Your into model aircraft and like to buy in bulk .
    good luck, Daz.
PS. I'll pass on to Paul your compliments about his booklet.

    Hi AussieSurf,
I am also looking at buying Paul's book and was wondering if you were able to build your biodiesel plant from the information in Paul's book?
