  • IP and fuel tanks

    Hi everyone,

We recently purchased a 2004 3.0L turbo diesel prado and are going to convert it the run on vegie oil. I have a few questions to ask and I appreciate any help and advice.

It has a Denso centrifugal type IP. A feed pump is used to draw fuel from the fuel tank through a filter/segmenter. The feed pump is built into the IP. This pump draws a set volume of fuel on each revolution of the pump , outlet pressure from the feed pump is controlled by a pressure regulator valve. Fuel is sent from the outlet side of the feed pump into the IP body, where it is compressed and sent to the delivery valve of the appropriate cylinder depending on the injector order. ECD (electronic controled diesel) type systems were introduced from August 1999 onwards. * Info from the Prado Workshop Manual

Does this type of IP and fuel system suit vegie oil?

It has two tanks that act as one large tank. It has one filling port and automatically pumps from one tank to the other (no manual switching). Roller vane-type fuel feed pump installed integral with the riser pipe and fuel gauge sender unit inside the fuel tank. It uses a low pressure priming pump within the fuel tank and an additional high pressure pump in the fuel feed line. * Info from Prado Workshop Manual

Will vegie oil pump between the tanks automatically as the diesel does? What would be the best way to set up a SVO/WVO system with the current set up on this Prado?
Has anyone had experience with 2004 Prado or similar and vegie oil conversion?

    Cheers,
    Simon
