why do you have to get rid of the methanol out of the biodiesel

  • #2
    Re: methanol

    You don't!

If you needed to add a high amount of caustic to neutralise the FFA in the oil, there may be a lot of soap in the biodiesel, suspended by the methanol. If the methanol is evaporated off, soaps suspended in the biodiesel by the methanol will drop out.

Washing the biodiesel removes the methanol and the soap too.
