    Re: Forum Administration?

Yes, the other moderators are myself, Joe and Cameron. As you know Robert is away at the moment so we are doing our best to pick up the slack.

But you can help us by reporting any posts you see that are spam or inappropriate.

However I haven't seen much spam lately, and most of it gets picked up by the automatic filters so you never see it. And what is this security issue you are referring to?

      Re: Forum Administration?

I received a message through the private system from a new member, it appeared to be structured incorrectly and the nature of some of that content was that I did not click the included links.

Quite possibly only porn but initially I thought it may have been a direct injection type of spam but after the post I did see it came from a member so that is unlikely.

I will not name the member here in case I am incorrect - would not be the first time

I also received an inappropriately titled message I strongly suspect from a spam robot or new user. Have details as it was emailled to me but not showing up here.

To those who have not received this spam, please do not feel too bad about it.

I am sure that in the fullness of times drivers of lesser vehicles will also get some - spam that is :-)

                    Re: Forum Administration?

I got the email too but the not the PM. That probably means one of the other moderators deleted them and banned the user before we checked our PMs.

The forum receives half a dozen or more spam posts every day, but most users never see them because of the automated filters, which we mods check through before deleting (and banning the user) or validating if it is a real post.

However since PMs usually get emailed to the users automatically, you would have got the email before they get a chance to be deleted/banned.

Hello, I'm Greg. I'm helping with the system administration of the server that the forum is running on.

I thought I'd let you all know that I've got an outage planned at 22:30-00:30 Central European Daylight Time.

                      Thanks!

                            Re: Forum Administration?

Robert's brother Mark was a good friend of mine, and I was helping him out with the server, and his forum in Switzerland (English Forum - Home). It's been a difficult few weeks.

The server is in pretty good working order. I'm pretty much keeping it running the way it was, and after adding this disk space, it should be in good shape for several more months. I've run unix based web servers for major companies in the past, so it's not too much work for me.

Let me know if there are any problems with things like email from the server.

                            Thanks for the support!
                            Greg
