  • Rapeseed oil

now we all know that rapeseed is the original, genetically unmodified canola oil (wonderful people the canadians). im thinking about the idea of planting a crop of rapeseed and cold pressing it for use in making biodiesel. Has anyone looked into this???

    Re: Rapeseed oil

    Hi Adamdejgar,
Now you are talking my langauge.Rapeseed ...carbonised seed of Brassica Junecea.Yes the Canadians have brought out a zero zero variety which means taking away Euricic acid which is harmfull for human consumption as it creats thyroid problems.Mustard /Rapeseed can have oil content upto 40%.And by can and should be the Natural Oil of Choice for both palatable use because of the highest content of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid. The gluocosinates or enzymes which can cause harmfull effects can be deactived just by boiling in hot water.
In fact Mustard/Rapeseed is the preffered cooking oil in India and has been in use since 1500BC.
One point to remember is that if the seeds are crushed fresh from the garden then you can have low FFA as low as 0.5%.But with aging degradtion takes place and will rise to maybe upto 2~3%.
So yes the age old saying ,press it fresh.
In fact even australians have done heaps of work on rapeseed/mustard

Please talk to them. They will guide you in selecting the right variety.
In fact Rapeseed/Mustard Oil should be the preffered edible oil too.

But then that would make the refiners bankrupt. There is another controversy linked to this which I will not elaborate.

    Again the Big Coops story.
But by all means.Rapeseed is the way to go.

    Cheers
    Sauman
