  • What to do with left-over WVO solids?

    Hello again,

I am wondering what I shoud do with the accumulated solids at the bottom of my settled WVO drum. I have transferred the clear WVO from the top half, but I still have about 1/2 a drum of a opaque, semi-solid gel at the bottom.

What is the best use / disposal method of this material? I am planning on producing biodiesel within the next month, but I don't know if this is useable to make it.

    Thanks!

    WOW,

Man I get this amount of solids in two month oil collection.

I pour it back into a drum and take it back to the shopping centre oil drums where all shops are getting rid of their oil waste. Not sure if it will go well with making bio.

    Cheers,

Yeah, its a pretty serious amount of solids.

I was thinking about putting it back into the collection drums from which it came.

      Thanks for your reply.

If you do this, you will end up collecting it again and again if you put it back where it came from. Wait and see what other members making bio will say. Maybe you can use it in making bio.

          Hi,
If you can, find a friend or farmer with a pig or two, they (the pigs and the farmer) love it mixed into a ration!
          Cheers, Michael

          NB
Waste food and food scraps, including waste vegetable oil, are defined as "swill" and it is illegal to feed animals swill unless it has been appropriately processed. I have further clarified this in post #29 of this thread.

perhaps you can do a poor quality biodiesel or a partial reaction (lots on unreacted oil) which may make it suitable for your SVO car?

              Hey Fitian,

I'll take it, I've had no problems turning it into bio. I'm on your doorstep too.

              Cheers

every 20ltr container i pick up has about 1/3 semi solid fat at the bottom. iuse the top gold liquid for svo {Two tank system heated} the bottom 1/3 i put aside untill i have 150 ltrs and then make bio out of it.It works a treat .i then mix it back into my filtered svo tank {1000 ltrs} wich stands on a frame just above the height of my filler cap on the car
                  sure works for me

The stuff I get has about 40% custard type fat that settles out.
I put it in drums and give it to Wayne as well.

He has no trouble with anything I've given him (and hasn't there been some interesting stuff amoungst it) and I'm convinced he's got the process so well sorted, he'll soon be making good bio out of rocks or Firewood

So, When life gives you limon , make a limonade and when life gives you fat make a biodiesel

Re: What to do with left-over WVO solids?

Well that brings us to a potential new source for biodiesel. Australia (and the rest of the developed world) has an obesity epidemic, so perhaps we could park some drums outside the clinics/hospitals that engage in liposuction. They could liposuction it straight into containers for later collection. Biodiesel would never again be in short supply, not as long as there are Macca's and Krispy Kreme's

Ok so the above is in bad taste - pun intended. Michael

It appears the commercial collectors are still using fat in several forms as animal feed.
