  • Hi all, Spotted: 407 Hdi w/ Bio stickers in North Sydney

    Hi everyone,

New to this forum but long time Pug owner.
I'll be picking up a 2nd hand 407 diesel next week and am looking to run it on bio to some extent B5, B30 maybe B100?

Interestingly as I was leaving the parking station I use in North Sydney yesterday and I spotted a Silver 407 ST Hdi with what I thought were 'runs on biodiesel' stickers. Didn't have pen to write a note to owner.
    Anyone on this forum??
I'd really like to hear their experience as I've seen on mention of the 407s on this forum although there are a few 307s.

btw, I'll have the SV Hdi (2.7L TT) as used in Jags, Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Sport. - any one with those here?

cheers Tygar - getting excited about new car.

I nearly bought a 407 a few weeks ago, but ended up with a Mazda 6 diesel instead. I was going for the poverty pack 407 (SR HDi), though not the SV. I'd be curious to know who it is as well, as I've not seen anyone in here with a 407 before (though there are quite a few 307s).

    Cheers,
    Robert.

Cool. Pugs love biodiesel, I'm sure your 407 will run really well on it. I've been running B100 in my 307 for about 4000km now, and it goes beautifully.

From what I've heard, the 2.7 litre motor in the 407 is a bit of a monster (torque similar to V8 petrol motors) so I'll bet you're in for some fun.

        Suzy,

Is your 307 new? or at least still under warranty as I was wondering how using more than B5 (as per Peugeot Aus) would affect any claim.
Worst case they could knock back almost any engine/fuel system problems.
Or did you decide you could live with the potential risk?

Also, where are you getting your Pug serviced - Dealer/Pug specialist/other?
Are they up to speed on using Bio? I've not spoken to the guys that service my petrol 306 yet.

Pugs, yep got two of them one bio & one petrol, I spoke with what I thought would be a fairly open minded service agency today and they warned me off biodiesel in my HDi in no uncertain terms, wether it be a 2002, 2004 or a 2006 model 307 HDi. My sisters 2002 now has a split fuel priming bulb, my 2004 has a weeping injector return line and the 2006 has no issue as far as I know.

That's what I have learnt in the past few days on pugs and biodiesel. New one should be fine, as the car manufacturers (Peugeot included) are dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world and are forced to up the quality of their products. Lets face it they are in it for the money, who isn't?

            Hi Tygar,

Yes, my 307 is fairly new (March '07). It's yet to go in for a service, but I doubt I'll take it to the dealer. I've heard that PQ Automotive in Chatswood are reasonable for servicing, so I'll probably take it there.

The warranty for new pugs stipulates max B30 (despite the Peugeot Australia website saying B5). I acknowledge that I've invalidated part of my warranty by using B100, but am happy to assume the risk involved given the environmental benefits of B100.

Having said that though, I'm very confident that there will be no issues caused by running B100. Indeed I trust that my car will wear less using it than it will on petrodiesel.

              Suzy,

r.e. PQ Automotive, I had my 205 Gti serviced there by Maurice and Pierre in the past. I believe the guy I sold it to still gets it serviced there.
These days I get the guys at P504 in Waitara to do my servicing, got their name from AussieFrogs.

              Matt,

I was aware of the solvent properties of bio and that the new synthetic lines were ok. Seen other comments about primer bulb and pump seals etc needing to be verified.
              My main concerns are:
              1. fuel filter clogging when switching from dino as car has done 14k so far (haven't been able to contact previous owner to check yet if he used bio).
              2. issues about the affects of the particle filter burn off. i.e. additive to fuel mix and effect on actual burn process when engine thinks it is time to do so.

                Matt,

What model Pugs and what Bxx mix are they using?

Re: Hi all, Spotted: 407 Hdi w/ Bio stickers in North Sydney

All 307's, 2002, 04 and 06 models. A few small issues but it appears as per Suzy's post that the newer models are quite immune and will run on well made biodiesel. I reiterate well made, nothing else.

I would say give it a try, but I must ask is it the HDi with the 6 cyl twin turbo? I am jealous!!!Pump seals are nothing I knwo of but I have injector bleed lines on the 2004 307 needing replacement with viton (which just arrived at home today, see www.greaseworks.com) and as you know Suzy and my firends 2006 model seem immune to issues. Just remember B100 is available in Europe and any diesel there must be compatible. I will put bets yours is!

Particluate filter is OK as far as I know on my mates, Robert and others have told us that opinion is that it will be OK. As for fuel fitlers, buy a spare and learn to replace it, I did and its good knowledge to have. It will also show out other problems as you do your own minor servicing. Its a good idea to conact the pervious owner even to find out whay he sold it!

On the subject of fuel bulb on the 2002 307, its more do do with sulphur in the older fuel it ran on making the rubber brittle, no sign of weeping or the normal degredation that occurs.

I would have a good try at ruinning B100 from Morris Lydia at the biodiesel station when it gets warmer and he sells B100 again. If your game go B100 otherwise try increasing blends which is what I did on my 307. I think you'll find it goes just fine, its quite a new car and as such its material compatibility should be very good. It will be small things that get you on such a car (I hope). I spoke with a good peugeot dealer yesterdaya and what they know as biodiesel is not anything like what I make and run my car on. So be warned there is biodiesel and then there is biodiesel

Not Suzy replying but don't tell them and unless you have issues there is no worry. Do your own fuel filter and they will never know, just use genuine parts.

Car dealers in general are uneducated with regards biodiesel and most have no idea so logically say don't. They also have bad expereinces with other cusotmers runnign bad biodiesel so expereince talls them one thing, do not use it.
