There's a useful exchange in Hansard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansard), the UK's parliamentary record this week on biofuels (http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200607/cmhansrd/cm070319/text/70319w0004.htm). In a written answer. Ian Pearson (MP for Dudley South (http://www.ianpearson.org.uk/) and the Secretary of State f (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretary_of_State_%28United_Kingdom%29)or Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) (http://www.defra.gov.uk/) says that to meet the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation using existing technology we'd need to plant between 1 and 1.5bn ha (405m to 608m acres) of crops compared to 209,000ha in 2005. In other news, the Department had a sofa worth 350 (approximately) stolen in 2006.Hattip to Biofuelwatch
