  • Running on coconut oil

Is anyone running on virgin coconut oil?
Can get oil out of a press but would like to know if it can be used straight or is it like canola and need more processing once it has been through the press.
    Cheers

    Re: Running on coconut oil

Maxwell , your'e Smart ! coconut is proabably the best for SVO , especially if it is indeed Virgin quality ( less than 1 % FFA). It is a saturated fat , less likely to polymerise in combustion and cause coking. It does however have a high melting point , around 25C , so needs a lot of preheat to become thin enough for your fuel system.
I have done many Km's and generated many kW's on CNO of varying quality , as a blend ( 50/50)with diesel or kero without any engine conversion , and also with a full 2-tank with heat exchanger ( thanks Tony )and extra lift pump. For longterm use , go for a good fuel system conversion .Being in the tropics helps , the oil is liquid enough to deal with at 32C . Whats your location Max ?
But to answer your question , no processing is required for good CNO to use as fuel , apart from filtering/de-watering. If it is indeed virgin ( produced without high temperatures consistant with most screw expellers ) it should be water clear , but even brown , high FFA junk CNO will be OK if you have the right heating system.
PM for more advise if you need any , John
