  • Distilling Methanol

Can anyone tell me if a standard alcohol still is a good tool for distilling methanol from wash water etc .
I am looking at a still spirits turbo 500 .

Haven't done it but can't see why it wouldn't work. Be interested to see how you go.

A reflux column still is able to separately distill alcohol of different boiling points.
Methanol has a lower boiling point (64.7C) compared to ethanol (78.3C)
      Start collecting Methanol at 64C
When the column temperature rises above 75C start collecting the Ethanol.
This may not work for Metho as there may not be any Ethanol in it. To prevent people drinking Metho (Methanol is a poison which can kill you.), they add "Bittrex" which is a bitter flavouring.
If collecting it for future "washes" you can collect all condensate from the still, up to 90C. as you will have increasing water content above this temp.
